I had a fabulous hair cut from Manesh a few days ago. Couldn’t be happier. I’ve had the same long(boring) hair style for a few years now and decided I wanted to do something radical: quirky, short, asymmetrical. So I needed someone who has vision and who really knows hair. I saw some great reviews about Manesh on a different website and decided to trust him with this big leap from boring to unusual and I’m so happy that I did. I told him my vague idea and he immediately had great ideas and knew how the cut would work with my face shape and my slightly curly/wavy hair. He’s obviously super experienced and really understands hair. The salon was also very nice(my first time there) and the people were welcoming. It’s not an overly-hip atmosphere like in some Brighton salons, thank goodness. Huge thanks to Manesh!

Would definitely recommend! The people here were very welcoming and easy to work with. They were open to my ideas and had suggestions of their own to achieve those ideas. I wanted a bright dye on some layers of my black(not dyed) hair, and they suggested bleaching it first, but because I was on a budget, I wanted to skip the bleaching — although I was very well aware of the risk of applying copper-colored dye onto stubborn black hair. Needless to say, it didn’t show up very well, and Mel & James were nice enough to offer complimentary treatment after to lift the color. This surprised me, as most hair salons would not offer this kind of generosity. The color in the end, turned out exactly as I wanted! There’s a student discount M-W for 20% off and Th-F for 10% off so that’s a great deal! My total ended up being 38 pounds, which was well worth it for what I got. All in all, I’m glad I chose this place and would definitely come back for any further hair treatments! Thanks Mel & James!

I want to give this a 2,½ stars, as I had both my own & my young Daughters hair cut here, we were both very happy with her experience, I sadly wasn’t quite so happy with my own Manesh made a fantastic job of our 9 year olds hair(first grown up hair salon experience, as a birthday treat) he listened to both her & myself, so she got a young trendy cut, which she loved, whilst still keeping most of her lovely long tresses which I loved so in short he listened & treat her as an adult too, which made her day, yet listened & followed my instructions about not cutting it too short, or layering too heavily. I was so pleased with her hair cut & the fact he didn’t lecture or criticise don’t you hate it when hairdressers decide to lecture you on how to deal with YOUR hair that I thought I would trust him with my own. Sadly my own experience wasn’t as good as my Daughters in fairness he was very friendly & chatty in a nice not in your face way for most of my time there & also my hair was pretty knackered, & though I did prefer to keep the length I did say that I would understand if he needed to take a few inches off it I also said I didn’t like heavy layering, preferring to keep most of it one length, with light layering only — 1st mistake he kept the length but with the heavy layering I had asked him not to do I wasn’t best pleased on getting home & seeing it properly instead of being easier to manager, for weeks it was far worse than it had been as he’d made such a good job of my Daughters & followed instructions I may have over looked this & gone back for my next cut, but been more forceful in my instructions BUT2nd& biggest mistake, though he got through most of the wash & cut without giving me the classic I am God, your hair is mine, bloody annoying classic hairdressing lecture on what & what not to to with MY hair — sadly he just couldn’t resist, & on my deciding to buy a bottle of the product he used on my hair he let rip at full throttle & boy did he go for it he didn’t even notice my eyes glaze over — sorry Manesh, you seem like a lovely Guy, BUT I’m not 15, if I need/want your advice on how to care for my hair, I’ll ask for it & I do not appreciate being lectured, so won’t be coming back

I’d like to write a review for this hairdressers as I’m a little taken-a back by the current review posted for North Laine Hair Co. I have to admit I am extremely fussy when it comes to my hair. The worst thing is when you go to a hairdressers, ask for a particular hair cut, style, or colouring and end up coming out bitterly dissapointed, despite still paying a fair amount of money and trying to put on your best fake-smile, managing a quick«thank you» as you say goodbye. Talking from experience, I’ve had a few bad experiences at hairdressers to say the least; from uneven fringes, bleeding hair dye, unflattering ‘jaggared’ laying to simply cuts that are way too short for my face,(despite saying I only wanted a trim), so as you can imagine, when I moved to Brighton I wanted to be sure I found a hairdressers that did what I wanted, a hairdressers I could trust. I can honestly say that North Laine Hair Co. ticks all those boxes. When I had my first appointment. I still felt rather fearful about getting my hair done, but I knew it was time for something to be done. As I walked through the door, they immediately made me feel so comfortable, we chatted away about clothes, hair(would you believe), our travels(my hair stylist — Kate, used to work on cruise ships) and men! I told her exactly what kind of cut I wanted, and two delicious hot chocolates later I felt so happy with the result. She also used specifc products to suit my hair type in order to make it look shiny and healthy. The salon itself is reasonably small, but it’s got a charming little atmosphere, it’s pleasantly decorated with interesting pictures on the wall, with a nice variety of music playing in the background and a good selection of magazines to read(all in neat hardback plastic folders!), I can honestly this is one of the best hairdressers I’ve come across. — A rarity these days. I would highly reccomend it!

I love going to the hairdressers, its feels indulgent and I usually leave with my self-confidence boosted to the tune of £40– a fair exchange every few months! Unfortunately my experience at North Laine Hair Co was not so blissful… It started well, my stylist was chatty but not annoyingly so– we did the obligatory hometown and holiday talk and then he got down to business. I was provided with magazines and water and was treated to a great hair wash that included a splendid 5 minute head massage. Seriously, it was amazing, so much so that I feel bad about what I’m going to say next… Great head massage, poor hair cut. Unfortunately my stylist did not listen to my concerns about his cutting my layers in a centre parting when I wear my hair in a severe side parting. The result– totally foreseeable and highly irritating– all my layers ended up on one side. In addition to this, I specifically requested minimal use of styling products, yet left the salon with a Saved by the Bell wet-look perm! Curly hair is difficult, no question, but you’ve got to know how to cut it! You can print a £5 voucher from their website, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend redeeming it!
