I went back here for the first time in over 10 years and it was as good as I remembered it. The pizza is thin and tasty, the cold meats are my favorite. Definitely on my must do list in Brighton.

Hole in the wall indeed! It is… as other reviewers put it… cozy. And while one reviewer said it was ‘whisper’ cozy, the table next to us was not getting the hint. Honestly, the place did remind me of some of the ‘hole-in-the-wall’ restaurants I have been to in Italy so I figured we couldn’t go too wrong with this choice. They have so many options on the menu, can be a good thing or if you are like me, and everything sounds good and you just want it all, it can be a bit frustrating. It is a bit dark inside, but we sat in the window, so didn’t notice it too much. We had garlic bread to start with(I know, so imaginative!)… there are two large pieces… really enough for two people, in case you were wondering if each person needed their own order. I had a veal dish with pasta in a pommodoro sauce. Mr. Snarky had a chicken dish that had ham and Fontina Cheese, smothered in tomato sauce and then served with some carrots, green beans, and sauteed potatoes. The portions were quite large. The veal was a bit tough, and the pasta was ok… just seemed to be lacking something. Mr. Snarky seemed to enjoy his meal. It is good value and based on the pizzas I saw, I would imagine the pizzas are definitely worth it. Wouldn’t mind going back to try one.

Really expensive, really average Italian food. To top that they were horrendously understaffed and it to an age to get served/food delivered and almost impossible to grab a waiters attention. If you like average food, poor service and wont to pay through the nose for it the go. If not, somewhere else perhaps?

Oh no — what happened? Maybe I just went on a particularly bad night, but my experience of this restaurant was awful! The place is indeed cosy — like ‘whisper, don’t talk, it’s so quiet’ cosy! That’s fine, if you’re in the right company! My starter was ok, but no great shakes. 3 prawns for 6 quid? The staff were lovely and friendly, but some of the food was so ropey! My friend’s main of carbonara was good — but I’d expect nothing else! My partner’s chicken was fine, but no more than that. As I said, maybe I caught them on a bad night — next time, I’m sticking with pizza!

I was really disappointed by my food and really hoping it was just an off night for them. I had been waiting to eat there with excitement for over 2 years — had always heard good things about it and I love Italian food. My bruschetta was quite tasteless and the bread used was supermarket sponge quality. Biggest crime for me — my spaghetti was overcooked. Pasta sauces a bit bland — and the veal was a bit tough. I had hoped for better and thought their pricing was too high for the quality of food. Sadly, I wouldn’t chose to go back.

I love Italian and I was very interested to see how Italian food was presented at a restaurant still a great many miles away from Italy but thousands of miles closer than from my home. La Capannina was a solid choice. I had a rosemary chicken dish and a a carpaccio that were both very good. I also very much enjoyed the ambiance, though it was slightly darker than I like my restaurants, though I was with my date, so there’s that! I’d come back again, and probably have the cannaloni that Linda enjoyed. I had a bite and it was damn-near heavenly.

As first-time visitors to Brighton we had no idea what the restaurants are like. In discovering La Capannina we really got lucky. The food and service were both excellent and the staff went out of their way to make us welcome. Highly recommended!

There are a plethora of restaurants in every city, not least somewhere like Brighton where afluence is seemingly a prerequisite. Despite this, so often you’ll find average Italian food that tastes similar to anything Sainsbury’s might sell. However, here you will find fresh Italian food cooked on an open wood fire, complimented by an atmospheric charm and a very tasteful décor. This is the type of place any budding romantics should take a prospective date. The menu is vast, offering far more than most places. Thankfully the large menu doesn’t result in a reduction in quality, it just means you’ll have to come back time and time again.

La Capannina is a wonderful example of Italian food done right. It’s always surprising to me how many restaurants can simple, authentic Italian cuisine wrong but this restaurant does it fair justice. There isn’t anything stuffy, fancy or complicated about the restaurant and its menu but what they do, they do very well. The wood-oven pizzas are outstanding and generously topped, the pastas are also bounteous and cooked to perfection(try the Ravioli with clams and lobster for just £11.95). The waiters are charming but know when to leave you alone and the wine list caters to every budget. It’s a very popular spot so you’d better book ahead.

La Capannina is a great Italian ‘Ristorante’. It’s quite a cosy place and decked out with a lot of natural wood. The focal point is the impressive stone bake oven and this place is all about the pizza. They have your expected selection of salads and pasta dishes, but i would really recommend their pizzas. This is probably the best pizza i have eaten outside of Italy. They are also reasonably priced and you will pay under £10 for a decent size pizza. The staff are friendly and the waiters manage the perfect level of Italian ‘flirtiness’ without being offensive or OTT. Drinks are what you would expect, with some decent Italian wines and bottle of Peroni. The prices make this a good place to come to for lunch or dinner, but you will likely need to reserve a table for evening weekend dining as the tables can fill up fast. Recommended.

Love this place. If you like Italian food, go! Authentic, no-frills, well run restaurant with a right proper pizza oven. Friendly, efficient service. Good pricing. Gets busy so probably best to book, especially at the weekend. Love it!

One of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Great food and unlike many they have a wood burning oven to cook genuine pizza. Portions are large — so it’s wise to share a starter. Always busy and best to book at weekends. There is seating both upstairs and down.
