The best pub in Brighton. Great beers and dead friendly. If you get a chance go to the Jazz nights on Sunday it can be a bit of a squeeze but worth the effort providing your not sober.

Cracking«little» pub. Friendly staff, eclectic beer selection and a cozy atmosphere. You could do worse than checking out this one!

I need to come back here because in the short time since I came here they have started brewing their own beer(which they used to do a good while ago). Even without this bonus there was a lot worth drinking. Six real ales, featuring a couple of interesting selections and a raspberry beer that a couple of my friends liked so much they simply would not leave with the rest of us. Very small pub, but lovely and cosy as a result.

Out on a girlie day with two of my best friends(for a birthday celebration), we went here to fill in some time, last Saturday, and had such a lovely(and memorable) time. The landlord was down-to-earth, friendly and a great host. After helping us choose our wine, he got us a table and even offered us a generous portion of Spanish tortilla with spicy chutney to sample as he was considering serving it in the future. The atmosphere was of an old English pub relaxed and friendly. It’s a tiny space so may be claustrophobic for some but if you can get yourself a table, it is comfortable, cosy and filled with eccentric décor including a collection of colourful, vintage ties pinned to the beams. Highly recommend this place and the Malbec was lovely!

The Hand in Hand is a really sweet old pub at the back of St James Street, it’s definitely the smallest pub I’ve been to. When they have live music it can be a tight squeeze but it all adds to the unique atmosphere. Its absolutely brimming with character with walls covered in newspapers and trinkets, and there an ancient piano in the corner. Its a must if you’re up that side of town. They serve local ales and the mustard and burgundy exterior makes the pub a local Kemptown landmark.

This is a very cute little pub, hidden away up in Kemptown, past the St James St main drag, so one of those you need to know about to go there. It is a tiny place — not much bigger than my living room, and with its small size and distincitve yellow exterior is brim full of character. There seems to be a lot of regulars here, generally older men who seem to be part of the fabric of the place. It manages to cater not only to them, but also to a younger crowd, drawn in by the uniqueness of the place. There are good views onto the street outside, making this a great place to people watch. It almost feels as if you’ve just popped to a mate’s house for a catch up.

As mentioned below, TEENYTINY pub/bar with a very local feel. After a day at the Concorde 2(for a day festival) seeing Cinerama, the Wedding Present and Martin Rossiter and having stopped by another pub, we wanted somewhere to chill a bit with friends. So we popped in here. It was quite full, but the five us managed to stand near the gents just for a bit(comfortably) but then grabbed one of the tables. It’s amazing that such a small pub /bar can make great cocktails as well(in London it’s so hard to find pubs that can make a drink).(Try the dark & stormy here). We had such a great time. Two locals(later in the evening) took to the piano and played a few tunes and someone even belted out an Italian traditional song. But for the main part, they had a mixture of music(from 50/60s to more indie modern). To top it off, at the end of the evening, a local offered to buy everyone in the pub/bar a free round and brought us over top shelf tequila shots. That never happens in London! Staff here were really nice and friendly. I hope it stays that way for future people who pop by here. Will definitely go back next time in Brighton.
