I find Forfars impressive for a number of reasons, but let’s quickly address the first three; A. They openly attack Gregg’s(in the case of this store by setting up right next to them) and I like it when stores are shamelessly rude about each other. B. They may only be a Sussex chain but my god it’s hard to find a town in Sussex without one these days. C. Breakfast pasty for one pound fifty, it’s a bit of a grease fest but when I’ve spent all but my last one fifty on alcohol the night before it feels like being touched by god when I have the chance to eat one of these before work. They also have all the usual things a place in direct rivalry with Gregg’s might have like coffee, sandwiches, baguettes and confectionery treats. The selection and prices at Forfars are pretty good too. If you want the aforementioned greasy school dinner style pastry then that’s there for you but at the same time when summer comes around leaving you with the need for a good hard salad kick then for a little more you can pick up some rather good sandwiches and salad bowls. Perhaps the best time to get to grips with the sandwiches though is when they run their awesome meal deals, offering you a sandwich, drink and doughnut all for the cost of about two pounds. I felt cared for last year when the summer party season got going and I found myself heading off to work totally unprepared from a selection of unfamiliar locations.

I like Forfars a lot. Like Jack put it, its not Greggs. Instead, its a fantastic bakery café combo that happens to be a small Sussex chain. They offer great cakes, sandwiches and hot bready goodness as well as hot drinks to warm you up on those nasty, cold days. This one is particularly good, as it stays open into the afternoon for a decent amount of time, rather than closing at 2 as seems to be all the other fresh stores habit. You’d be forgiven for thinking this has nothing to do with fresh, as its the only Forfares bakery that I’ve seen that hasn’t been converted to the new style that is fresh. Its big and spacious inside, but not particularly pleasant, so I’d recommend stopping off at La Vida or Bystander on the opposite side of the road if you fancy a sit down coffee or meal. But for someone looking for food to eat on the move, or to take back home, its ideal. If it gets knocked into shape in here, I’ll definitely bump it up a star!

Maybe I’m one of those really inspirational revolutionaries like Wolfe Tone, Mandela or the man himself, Marx? No sadly I’m not. Well maybe I’m revolutionary like those people who downloaded RATM to make it go christmas number one? Not even that… Well perhaps I’m one of those everyday revolutionaries whose even less revolutionary, but who still believed in going here instead of Greggs, because in our own special way it’s doing something naughty and rude to the system. I recommend the steak slice, and/or the vegetable bites when your on the run and only hot food will do. Not too fatty, and pretty tasty. I also really like the sandwiches here, which is good because normally I don’t from bakeries(too much butter, not enough mayo/mustard etc… like your mums in your packed lunch).

This is my local Forfars and the fact that it is local means that I get tempted inside very often, bad times or good times depending on which way you look at it. I love bakeries and this isn’t one of the better forfars I have been in mainly due to it being quite small and not being able to offer what some other forfars do. However, it does have your favourites which include doughnuts, cheese straws and gingerbread men. Don’t forget Forfars does some nice salads and sandwhiches for those wanting something reasonably healthy. I always like how clean these places look as this always makes you feel like you get better value for money.

After a night out partying my pal and i decided to get a hot drink and breakfast down us. We came across forfars bakers and decided this is where we would eat, and i’m so glad we did. there was a choice of tea and cakes, hot breakfasts and sandwiches. A cosy atmosphere left us feeling warm, and recovered from our night out, along with a full stomach.
