Fired Earth

Poor selection. Very expensive. Poor customer service. We could not find the tiles that we spotted on the internet, the staff were very unfriendly and ignored us.

Fired Earth is a chain of stores, specialising in tiles, pottery, and most ceramic products. I didn’t realise until recently that this was a chain: while it is professionally stocked and run, it has a very classical Brightonian feel, not quite hand-​crafted but certainly home-​run. This is to Fired Earth’s great credit: it is personable as well as qualitative, something you rarely get in a chain, and a really good place to buy pleasantly arty pieces.
Fired Earth’s entire set-​up speaks to the more artistic ceramics buyer and bathroom designer: everything is laid out in terms of colour and what-​fits-​with-​what, not necessarily in terms of price. Also, the pleasant do-​it-​yourself attitude is great: I can’t stand bathroom places where they just make up models and expect you to buy the whole kaboodle.
Beyond their friendly design and service, pleasant people all round offering very good advice, Fired Earth’s prices aren’t too excessive. Sure, this isn’t cheap stuff, but it’s so much better looking than the Wickes and B&Q stuff that it seems more worth it. I’m definitely in favour of waiting til you have enough money to do a job properly, instead of doing it cheaply, so this really appeals to me.
If you’re looking for a redecorate, pop into Fired Earth to see if you can’t make your kitchens and bathrooms just a little bit more enjoyable to look at. Alternatively, if you’re the garden-​type and are looking for some new pots and the like, the stuff on offer here is great.

This is a really nice place to get inspiration for bathrooms and kitchens and more. It has a great range of tiles and mosaics and lovely furniture too. It is expensive but one or two pieces from here will lift any room. They also do a great range of natural looking paint that is easy to apply and looks great.

This is a very expensive but nice tile and bathroom shop. I imagine if you wanted your bathroom decorated the expensive way you would go here. Beautiful stuff but it’s just so pricey I was put off.
