Since I was reminiscing about my childhood, I decided to go back to the times when I was a kid. I wandered into Daisy Daisy in a highly nostalgic mood. Although I didn’t have the games and toys they sold here when I was a kid(I was fond of Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), this took me back to the time when I wasn’t overly self-conscious. I just wanted to play. There are great baby walkers, pretend play kitchen sets, fantasy craft kits, doll houses, pirate ships, medieval castles, dinosaurs, knights, mythological creatures, and tons more. I had more fun here making toy dinosaurs«ROAR» at each other than I ever had working in an office.

My little nephew is too young to enjoy most of the toys at Daisy Daisy — the section for babies was limited to one shelving unit and wasn’t all that exciting. The rest of the shop, however, made up for it. The two levels are stacked with toys and books for a wide range of interests and ages. Some worth mentioning: art supplies, costumes, wooden train sets, plastic and wooden figurines, doll houses, puppets, puzzles and kitchen sets. Tiny jars near the front contained retro toys like spinning tops and those plastic army guys with parachutes. The shop is really kid friendly, with brightly coloured murals on the walls and many shelves at kid-height.

There were kids being dragged out of this toy shop when I went the other day. They were giving their parents evil glares that seemed to suggest– leave me here while you do boring adult shopping! It’s a fantastic little toy shop crammed full of stuff– which I think a toy shop should be! There are wooden toys, Sylvanian families, puzzles, costumes, educational toys and lots more. The target market is definitely the creative younger child aged from baby to about eight. I can recommend the big bugs that kids can sit on and wheel around– boyfriend’s three year old nephew loves his bumble bee!

When I was a nipper, there was a choice of Lego, plasticine or crayons and paper to play with. These days, young kids have access to a whole world of toys, games, craft kits and fancy dress costumes. I know because I’ve just visited Daisy Daisy and the sheer volume of different things made me feel dizzy. They stock wooden tricycles, kites, pop-up boxes, dolls houses, farmyards with animals, mini-tractors, fire engines and a whole section of stuffed toys, dolls and craft books. There’s special sections for Juniors, 0 – 3 year olds and Mother and Baby as well as wall art, height charts, coat hooks and lights to stimulate and educate your nippers. I quite fancied one of the Wild West costumes but the manager insisted they didn’t have my size.
