I’ll out myself here: I am, despite being mid-twenties, still an avid t-shirt wearer. The days of brands and logos are past me though, so Boy Parker holds little appeal for me anymore. However, when I was younger, it was one of my staples, and for obvious reason: they offer a huge selection of cool and interesting T-shirts with logos, jokes and other such branding. It is a bit pricey for the average tee, but they are pretty cool: how much will you pay to look cool? If you’re answer to the above question, like mine would be, is ‘not much’, than you have little to gain from Boy Parker. If I was a bit cooler, I’d probably see the point of wearing more branded gear; as such, I’m happy when I can find tees that fit me! That’s probably a bit of an exaggeration, but there you go. The only other reason I might go to Boy Parker is for the huge badge collection, but I stopped wearing them even longer ago… I’m not very cool anymore, am I?

I love this shop for its outrageous flannel Y-front undies in the window — even David Soul would struggle to pull them off in his heyday. Not because they have glue inside but because they’re so damned camp they could grown legs and walk all the way to Huggies Pitt’s Bar. The t-shirts in this here shop are the best in Brighton with an ever revolving smörgåsbord of cult Marvel tees, abstract, street art and Banksy-style stencilled works. Humour and cult, take your pick. At twenty five to thirty quid though you know what — they’re taking the pi**! That said, if you’re daft enough to part with the dosh there’s no place better to get a cool tee. Don’t tell anyone but I usually head to the back of the shop where’s there’s a sale.

Boy Parker does, in fact, have a section at the back for girls tees, aptly named Girl Parker. The shop specialises in graphic t-shirts — a lot of pop culture icons and logos, several with retro images and a few with political messages. Each shelf is labelled with an information sheet: where the art came from, whether it was hand printed, and the price. Most tees are between £22 — £30 each, but there’s a sale section in the back-back section of the shop. The sales section contains only a few racks, with prices marked all the way down to £20. Accessories include colourful ties and a vast collection of badges, available near the counter.

A shop devoted to boy’s– weird! Maybe it’s because it’s so unusual to see a shop largely dedicated to clothing and accessories for boy’s that makes this place seem so fascinating, or perhaps it’s just that they have hilarious and very witty t-shirts that I can’t help but lust after. Whatever it is there should be more shops like this– my boyfriend actually becomes enthusiastic about picking out clothing in Boy Parker. I happily follow behind him hoping that they have some t-shirts in small or x-small! I particularly love the one with the two pandas fighting with chairs– pandas and WWF– get it… intelligent t-shirt humour. They also stock the brilliant pants for poverty.
