We had a delicious lunch at Archipelagos. The restaurant is clean and bright and the service friendly. We shared the sahanaki kefalotyri which is a fried cheese. The saltiness of the cheese reminded me of halloumi but the texture was chewier. Very tasty! I had the vegetarian moussaka which was massive and delicious. Loads of potatoes, aubergine, courgette and tomatoes topped with a melted cheesy top. Much better than versions I had had elsewhere and so big that I finished inky half(and took the rest to go!) My partner had the soutzoukakia which were long meatballs in tomato sauce. Also delicious! It came with a side of rice. Both dishes also came with a side of salad and chips. I liked that they served these family style. Service was a bit slow towards the end of our meal but I would definitely come back. The food was great value and delicious!

Great traditional greek food, just like when I was in Santorini on holiday :) Staff in this place are amazing, they are very smiley, helpful and accomodating, they take the time to explain dishes and make recommendations to your tastes. I went here with friends and we all ordered the small appitisers dishes and shared them out, it was a great way to try all the different foods :) would go again and recommend for something a bit different in hove. The resturant is quite small and seems popular so i woud recommend booking.

We ate at Archipelagos because no one in our very diverse international group was Greek. Some of the group had never been exposed to Greek food so, it was a culinary experience for them. And it was a great choice for all. Having Greek food before, I was pleased with the diversity of the menu. It has more than the traditional fare that is typically found at the Greek restaurants I have had the pleasure of eating at before. The taste of the food did not disappoint. However, the portions of the mains were huge. Something to be aware of especially if you are ordering apps as well. The servers were efficient and friendly. And I would recommend this place for locals and to those visiting Brighton and Hove.

The food was delicious, but the owner really set this place apart. He stopped by our table several times to make sure we were enjoying our food, and even gave us free bread and dessert! Definitely will be back again if in Brighton again.

I haven’t eaten Greek food for ages, so when a friend suggested Archipelagos I was excited to try something a little different from the norm. The restaurant itself is fairly small. It appears typical of a Greek taverna — by no means fancy, but homely and friendly. The staff were welcoming, especially as our friend is a bit of a regular. We decided to eat from the mezedakia menu — a selection of small dishes comparable to tapas. They have a great selection of vegetarian dishes, plus plenty of meat and fish dishes. Between the three of us we were able to sample grilled haloumi, stuffed vine leaves, butter beans in tomato sauce, lemon potatoes, stifado(beef in a red wine sauce), kleftiko(lamb), bacaliaros(cod), and pitta bread. Both meat dishes were slow cooked and deliciously tender, the lab in particular just feel of the bone. All the dishes were good although not mind blowing in any way. this is definitely good quality home cooking as opposed to gourmet food, but extremely satisfying on a blustery Autumn evening! There were a number of Greek wines on the menu — we went for the house red which was perfectly palatable. For pudding, we went for Baklava which was really too sweet on its own, but my boyfriend felt it complemented the strong, bitter Greek coffee he was drinking. At £65 for the three of us, it’s pretty good value. They also do a set lunch menu which has increased to £10.95 since the previous reviews, but stills sounds like it’s worth a try!

We tried their grilled lamb chops and chicken which were delicious. The service is warm and friendly. A lovely balance of succulent meat and fresh salad meant that we did not feel heavy bellied but it depends on how much you can put away as their tapas selection looked quite good. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I have eaten here twice and both times were brilliant. the first time we went alone about 3.30pm on a saturday afternoon and we were treated very well, lots of reccommendations from the owner, we were getting married in Greece and wanted to sample some signiture dishes to help us choose our menu choices. The owner was lovely and helped no end, we had a large variety of mezze dishes and a bottle of bubble and still paid under £80. Left knowing we would return. Returned a few months later this time on a saturday night along with my dad and step mum, it was very busy thankfully we had booked a table, even with the place overflowing we were looking after and food was second to none — they only thing is they had ran out of bubbly but I forgave them for that and will definitely be returning.

You can’t really go wrong with Archipelagos in Western Road. The restaurant and staff give the impression of a traditional Greek family-run taverna and the authentic cuisine is complimented by great Greek wines and beers. I love to sit outside on the terrace on warmer days but it’s just as fun inside too. As well as classics like meze, moussaka, stifado, kleftiko, mezedakia and calamari they also serve mains including steaks and fish. I’ve taken advantage of their £8,95 lunch special on more than one occasion: a starter, a main and a glass of wine, a great deal and very filling.

Despite hearing differing opinions about this place I must say I think Archipelagos is a rather underrated little place. In typical Greek style you can order a number of Tapas sized dishes that’ll satisfy all appetite types. While the décor is quite humble everything is honestly priced and due to the social waiting staff you’ll always leave feeling content in the knowledge you got great value for money. I recommend their £8.95 lunch deal that gets you assorted dishes from the lunch menu. Ultimately Archipelagos is unassuming and therefore underrated, making it the perfect place to bring someone who likes finding lesser known eating spots.

From others I’ve heard mixed reports about this place. However, from me you’ll hear nothing of the sort. I’ve been a couple of times and never been dissatisfied. In true Greek style all the meat dishes are so tender, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavour. Never will you have to suffer the chewy, overly spiced stuff that lesser Greek places dish out. The décor is perhaps a little underwhelming but in the dimmed light of the evening Archipelagos takes on a new persona. The food, the décor and the service are all very honest. What I mean by that is a lack of pretentiousness or showiness that can sometimes detract from an eating experience. My recommendation is to visit with a foodie friend, get a bottle of wine and enjoy some decent conversation over a decently priced meal. Also, the lunch deal is well worth trying out as it’s only £8.95 per person and is of equal quality to the evening menu. Archipelagos won’t necessarily stick in your mind as the best meal you’ve ever had but it will certainly leave you with warm, wholesome memories.
