Thats all very well, however, the bad management and pitiful/insulting management customer service at alive gym Brighton, has tainted the gym you offer, and new members should be aware of this to enable them to make a discerning and informed choice. Further to this, there are seafront gyms at a fraction of the cost, with 100% better facilities, views, and very central alive gym is no competion to what is now around in Brighton.

I have to agree with ‘Dezire’ in that some of the reviews on here are not from user’s but probably staff trying to boost its the gyms image. The best thing you can do is go take a look and ask to try before you buy. That way there are no lies or hidden pit falls. The have to agree gym staff are great and so is the location… but thats were the ‘great’ part ends. The equipement is tired, old and not at all modern like other gyms. The changing rooms are very small…6 men and its full. Only one toilet too with a door that has a 18″ gap underneath not very private! The showers… be careful… a part from 1 that is set to run cold… the other 3(yes only 4 showers in this ‘Large Chain’ gym) can run so hot they burn you… not nice… thats of course when they are working… and whats that smell… drains!!! This gym is ‘wash out’…not a ‘work out’!!!

Update August 2011: I ain’t see any improvements happening at this gym. In my opinion the worst value for your money gym in town! The place needs a serious overhaul. I’ve recently visited this gym after discovering it’s well hidden location off the Preston Street(near restaurants and fast food takeaways). The membership is not cheap and the gym equipment is outdated. I experienced dirty showers and the changing rooms lacked basics such as air-conditioning. From my observations the whole club lacked adequate cooling, apart from natural air-flow from the open windows. I decided that this club offered poor value for money when compared to other gyms in the area. This place was a real let down!

Alive, as an independent gym, is a really great alternative to the chains. You feel like you’re getting a much more personal service. I pay £37 a month which gives me access to a fully equipped gym, fitness classes, sauna, sunbed and crèche. There’s a complete salon and spa too where you can get everything from massages, homeopathy, osteopathy and haircuts. I love the fact that you can receive all these services under one roof! The gym feels spacious although depending when you go the machines can get busy. The workout studio are lovely and big and there are tons of classes to choose from although they’re £2. This still works out cheaper than, say, LA fitness and a lot more relaxed.

Have been a member here for six months and I’m leaving. Place lacks even the most basic equipment like a bar bell bench! It takes far too many weeks for them to fix broken equipment. Changing rooms are very cramped and sometimes rather dirty too. Very nice gym staff good location for city centre workers.

I have been to many gyms but have found a little gem hidden away in the centre of Brighton. I joined a couple of years ago on the recommendation of a friend and haven’t looked back! All the staff are friendly and happy to help and there is a really relaxed vibe to the place. The gym is well equipped and the personal trainers are always on hand to help. I have and will continue to recommend the gym to all of my friends.
