I’m getting tight with my 5* reviews, but the Cricketers was on the cusp of getting one. It really was very good. The interior was clean and modern and we were sat close to a suspended open fire which added a nice cosy feel. The menu and specials board was clearly written around the available ingredients rather than a collection of preconceived dishes and although our waitress couldn’t answer our queries about a couple of the dishes herself she didn’t hesitate to check with the chef and come straight back to us. A few vegetarian options available for both starter and main courses The food was well presented and portion sizes were just right. My triple cooked chips were on the whole pretty good although a few seemed a little undercooked in the middle. Not quite up to Heston’s standard, but then not with his price tag either! We skipped dessert so can’t comment on that, but the items on offer looked fairly standard dessert fayre. All told a very nice dining experience. 2 covers with wine was just under £60

We went here at the start of summer, 2010, for a midweek lunch. Hot day, so a few diners were dotted around the tables outside, but the inside of the pub was completely empty. Lots of parking, lots of basic, but appealing outdoors space, and a bit of a play area for kids. There seems to be open undeveloped patches around the car-park that could be bought, landscaped and improve things immensely. Inside, the young staff were very helpful and accommodating. They brought a high chair for our baby, the reason we were sitting inside. Everything seemed a touch tired. The menus, the placemats, the chairs, the décor. But perhaps these are the things that disappear when it’s bustling. Hard not to notice it’s all gone deary when it’s quiet. It was nice to see a couple of ‘slightly’ different offerings on the menu. I ordered faggots and chips with mushy peas, something I’ve not had in thirty years, the last time being at primary school. The chips were quite nice, the mushy peas were served in a little dish. The trio of faggots weren’t quite as I remembered them at school, and nor were they like the pictures on those boxed offerings that remain unbought in Iceland. Most striking, was a lack of gravy, but then we are down South here. Ketchup was offered and brought. I didn’t much care for the faggots, but it seems unfair to compare them with nothing but a schoolboy memory for reference. After all, today’s pizzas don’t taste like school canteen pizza, so maybe this is how faggots really taste. My wife’s fish and chips seemed nice enough. Yes, it’s lacklustre food. But it’s cheap. Maybe it would suit the elderly who don’t want to be surprised by the food nor the bill. Something overall was quite welcoming about the place though. Maybe it was the service. Maybe it was believing the tired décor was that way after years of welcoming fun. I’d go again, but I wouldn’t lie awake wishing the days away until I do.

I’ve known the Cricketers since the 1980s when it was a Brakespear’s tavern serving their excellent brews. It was then redeveloped as an a la carte restaurant, became pricey and lost its appeal to me. Now the pub is back as a Greene King tied house and the food has returned to typical pub fayre, average in quality and price. Situated on a quiet lane its best attribute is the pleasant outdoor environment.

We used to like going here in the summer as there was a nice seating area and garden outside. Prices are pretty much standard with the area, food is an average price but you do get it quick. It is just basic microwave or fried food, nothing fancy. Really nice location where you can sit back and relax with a drink and some mates. Can get pretty busy at peak times though so better to go during the week. They have a car park which is free and it is pretty safe. There is also shops nearby if you want to get some snacks, Although the pub do sell snacks they are quite expensive and not always that nice. I would recommend this pub it is nice at any time of the year but especially when its hot outside.

Quite a locals pub but a nice airy pub with nice bar staff. There is a large outside area with a small park. They have a large fire and fireworks on bonfire night and also a barbeque which is very nice and well cooked. There is a restaurant aswell which serves nice steaks and burgers and it is quite quick. There is good parking but quite hard to find as it is down a country lane.

The food is average but quick. The pub is nice with a good size garden. There is an eating area inside and benches outside. There is a play area in the garden which is good. The staff are good and quick. They have a big bonfire in November which gets quite busy and also fireworks.
