This B&Q Extra store is essentially a giant warehouse which is separated into sections covering things like home decoration, maintainance, lighting, plumbing, power tools, and even a large garden centre and a builders yard. Everything you could need for home improvement is here, and quite often for a very good price.
This particular store has a large free car-park, a trade bay, public toilets, and a coffee shop as well as the regular offerings of a B&Q store but on a larger scale, and so offering a wider range.
If something goes wrong in the house, or something needs to be done, yeah we could go to Homebase, or if there’s a Wickes nearby, but 9 times out of 10 we choose to go to B&Q Bolton!

A huge B&Q — and, to be honest, a good example of its type. The critical thing in such huge places like this is the helpfulness of the staff, and this branch scores highly here — we’ve been in several times and the staff have been unfailingly helpful in sorting us out as quickly as possible (which is especially appreciated as we have two kids aged 3 and 5 who seem to have an especially low boredom threshold) As you’d expect, the stock range is huge, although we haven’t always been able to find what we want (their range of light bulbs wasn’t sufficient for our needs!) — hence I feel I can only give four stars.
