When on a late shift, use the opportunity to adventure in the mornings. As photos may suggest I had a flat white and poached eggs on sourdough toast(unless I took a photo of someone else’s breakfast just to fool everyone.) It was very quiet when I walked in, there only being another person nursing a coffee. By where I’m from its quite pricey but when you consider where it is its competitive. It seems to attract the corporate kind, and they usually have the money to spend. The coffee was presented well, tasted great and I also liked the cup. The eggs and toast came not long after ordering — there was just me and the man nursing his coffee after all. The toast was crispy and sans butter, not needed when the perfectly cooked runny poached eggs oozed out over it. The watercress(?) gave it little pockets of freshness which actually complimented the rich egg. I only saw the breakfast menu, I presume this changes to something more appropriate later in the day.

Why have breakfast in bed when you can have breakfast at Yorks. Lovely coffee, actually i’d go as far as to say it’s some of the best I’ve had in Brum, both of my cappuccinos were hot, smooth and rich. Breakfast, scrambled eggs n smoked salmon, was beautiful(but I’d eaten it before remembering to snap a photo). If you’re in town early Yorks is perfect for a pre work gossip, a date with your MacBook or long leisurely brunch. There’s free wifi, all the tea n coffee combos you could wish for, and pastries to pacify the most demanding of carb cravings. This place is a welcome change from all of the generic coffee chains in town, well worth the three minute stroll up from New Street.

Om nom nom. Scrummy food, speedy service and a very hipster interior makes this place a strong contender for a place to take absolutely anyone at any time. The coffee is lovely and creamy and not too sharp, the service is speedy and the place’s reputation holds strong; it really is a great eatery. I remember stumbling into this place in what I thought was the dead of night; even then it was an awesome drop-in!

One of my favourite Birmingham breakfast spots. I’ve eaten here several times and the produce has been excellent and the food options a little bit different. I’ve had the full English which is great, the sausages are brilliant and I loved the ‘house beans’ too. So much so that I have had them since on sourdough toast with a poached egg. Most recently I had avocado smash from their new brunch menu. This was feta and avocado with lemon and chilli mixed together and served on sourdough toast. This was fresh and delightful and a surprisingly good choice for brunch. The coffee is good, I love the flat whites. They also have an excellent loose leaf tea selection, plus some brilliant cakes. I recommend picking up one of their loyalty cards– it’s not just for coffee, you get a stamp for anything over a certain amount so the card gets full pretty quickly. Keep an eye out for events happening there too, I know they have a jazz night! I love the atmosphere, it’s cool and modern but relaxed too.

Breakfast Review: Outstanding café in the heart of Birmingham. The breakfast here is like the establishment — cool. Not served on a plate, they serve the breakfast in a skillet on a wooden board. Obviously, you don’t get standard baked beans — because they make their own baked beans! Sausages were great, bacon good, egg, tomato and a field mushroom. Over and above this, you get the home made beans,(slightly smokey — superb), and the best toast you can get — hot, buttered sour dough toast. Its not cheap, but you get what you pay for,(£8.95 for the standard — which is great for me — but they do a large one for £12.95 — a friend attempted it but failed!). Until I went to the High Field, this was the joint best breakfast in Birmingham. Its simply excellent.

After seeing my review pop up on Unilocal yesterday, I realised it was high time this baby got renewed. So, I first visited Yorks in July 2013 and was pretty impressed with the décor, choice and staff. I have now been in most weeks since then and my

If you are a tea lover, this place is for you! This is one of my meet-up places in Birmingham. It is fantastic for lunch or early dinner, their food is top quality, service is fairly quick, but some may find it a little expensive. Their coffee is good, but I think they like to specialise in tea a little more. All comes served as loose teas, and their menu of varieties sourced from around the world is several A4 pages long. Comes in a diffuser pot, and if you desire milk it comes in a small bottle with a charming cork stopper. Can I recommend a specific tea, not really as they are all good. Staff are very friendly, warm and welcoming. They really add to the great customer service. They used to have a queuing problem, but they now bring your drinks to your table so that isn’t an issue any more. Also offer free wi-fi and plenty of power sockets. My only real negative is it is very noisy, really could do with some acoustic absorption on their ceiling.
