The Elizabeth of York is a good sized Wetherspoons pub in the heart of Moseley. Like most Wetherspoons pubs, there is no music and quite a few regulars taking *full* advantage of the low prices for alcohol, but it’s worth being aware that the pub has a slightly quieter small upstairs area where you can sit and read with a drink or a meal, or use the free Wi-Fi provided by The Cloud. There are always offers on different types of beer and ales, as well as a very wide ranging menu of meals at excellent prices. Don’t be afraid to politely ask staff to customise your meals — for instance, I recently swapped out rice for vegetables with a Curry I’d ordered. Wetherspoons pubs aren’t to everyone’s tastes, but if you want to have a quiet drink, a bite to eat or get together with friends for conversation — all without breaking the bank — the Elizabeth of York is a decent venue.

The Elizabeth of York is a Wetherspoons… So you kinda know what you’re getting really. It’s not fancy or clever, but there is still a certain charm in getting a gigantic meal and a pint for five pounds. We popped in on Saturday to grab a giant brekkie to set ourselves up for a busy day of trekking around town and chores. If you have had a breakfast in Wetherspoons before, you’ll know that for around £5 you can consume nearly 1,500 calories in one sitting with lashings of beans, meats and toast. I always forget this branch of the popular pub chain exists! Moseley is filled with so many good independent pubs(the Fighting Cocks, The Bulls Head and, of course, the legendary Prince of Wales) that it’s not somewhere I would choose to go on a night out. Saying that, again, you know what you’re getting. The food is always passable, the drinks are cheap and the selection is pretty good. They’ve recently included a lineup of craft ales and gins, so you can at least find something you will like(and end up spending much less on a round than in some of the other pubs in the area). On a Saturday morning(at 9:30am) there were already what I assume to be the«regulars» sipping on an ale, but it wasn’t too busy, noisy or raucous. The place was pretty clean and the service was quite fast. All in all, if you’re looking for somewhere to grab a bite or a quick drink, you could do worse than popping in here. Not a destination for a night out though — maybe just a pre-drink before heading somewhere with more atmosphere.
