What a gorgeous little business! The vintage salon catches my eye every time I walk through the Custard Factory complex. With pastel tiles, vintage plaques and all of the staff looking 100% in fitting with the era… It’s a place that has to be seen to be believed. Now, I’m not generally one for makeovers. I like looking nice(although you might not always think that when you see me ^_-), but the whole spending 2 hours getting ready thing just isn’t my bag. As long as I’m dressed reasonably, have some eyeliner and lippy on and my hair has been brushed; I always feel pretty good to go… I have to say, my Le Keux experience really made me rethink that. So, background… One of the lovely Unilocalers(the ever fabulous Caroline B.) had posted that she had bought a voucher for a makeover at Le Keux and wanted to see if anyone else was interested. I had a quick gander and thought«why not?»(as a little January pick-me-up). For £29, the experience entailed a vintage hair do, make up and fake eyelashes. I believe this was around 50% off the normal price of this experience if you were to just walk in off the street. We booked for Saturday the 17th and popped on in to town to get our glamour on. I arrived a little earlier than my makeover buddies(Julie W, birthday girl Anna and Caroline) and found a seat to await their arrival. Within a couple of minutes I was offered a hot drink and watched some other ladies receive the treatment. Once everyone was in situ, we had a short wait(only about 10 minutes) before Anna was called over for the makeup treatment. I ended up going«Hair first» and put a challenge to my lovely hairdresser… As my do is so short, it doesn’t lend itself to 1950’s victory roll styles, I was rocking a rather lovely 1920’s style dress though — so i asked if they could do something with that. Yes, yes they can is the answer. I was treated to the curl and style treatment and left to «set» whilst the others took the chair. The make up treatment was just as lovely. I explained to the MUA that I don’t do «caked on» and would like a smokey look to compliment the era I was going for. My wishes were respected and I had just a dusting of foundation, a hint of blush, smokey eyes and GIGANTIC eyelashes(as I had asked for them). I felt like a superstar once she was done and she even used some«setting» spray on me(as I was out for the evening and wanted to stay looking nice for as long as possible). Although nails weren’t included in the deal, the nail lady touched up my black tips with a hint of varnish for nothing at all. Anna’s «Ladybird» nails were really cute and totally complimented her look too! After everyone had, had their initial hair — I was brushed out and some lovely little curls were put into my hair. Rather than being a part of the«look book» all of the stylists respected my wishes and made me over to my wishes… I arrived looking like I would on any other day of the week… I left looking like Betty Boop. Hat’s off to the sweet, talented and kind ladies of Le Keux. That night many of my friends didn’t recognise me(as I looked so glam) and it was just the boost I needed.

Wonderful day, wonderful staff, wonderful experience, it really is us stepping back in time, ok, this may not be the most über smart beautician but it is warm, friendly, honest and very cute, a unique experience, 4 of us met up and were pampered and made to feel amazing, the perfect girlie girls experience even for the Tom boys, after our day of treats which lasted well over 2 hours for hairstyle and makeup(including lashes) we went for wine at the mocking bird theatre, wonderful. Le keux is pastle Blues and pinks, vintage style clothes, milk shakes and chatter, I wish I had known about these lovely ladies for my hen night. They also sell some vintage styled clothes and have a diner.

If like me, you love everything vintage from the clothes to the music, to the general style of the era, then I guarantee you will LOVE the Vintage Salon. They specialise in creating hair masterpieces that have been inspired from the vintage era. They offer styling for a range of special occasions from photo shoots to weddings to glamorous events or even your birthday night out! I first met them at a vintage clothing fair where they were offering full make overs. The girls looked amazing, from their twizzled hair to big red lips and fur coat, I felt like I had been transported back in time and loved every second of it. Now the girls have opened up a salon in Birmingham, I recommend that next time you need a special hair do you go here. The girls also offer lots of advice and tips to help you maintain your vintage look at home.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to have my hair done in the Vintage Salon– I wear a weave and it’s not the best thing to have for a Vintage Salon experience but I did go in with a friend who could and she really loved the whole experience. It’s a place where you do really feel like you have been taken back to the days when the women looked fabulous and adored the girly things in life, like voluptuous bodies and immaculate hair and make-up. The salon is fitted with interiors which fit the style of the vintage feel. I love the Cadillac diner set, I think it’s fab! I’m also into the vintage style hair equipment and the way the ladies(staff) look just makes you feel special. My friend had one of the best experiences ever– that’s what she told me. She looked gorgeous and felt like she was about to go on a Hollywood movie scene. Its the place for you to go to, if you’d like to feel like Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. The Vintage Salon is more than just a salon, it’s an overall experience. Being there made me reconsider whether I should have my hair natural and try a Vintage Salon experience myself… Maybe you’ll see me there soon with my Afro on display.

This place perfectly matches the hairstyles you are hoping to walk away with, from black and white floors, a cadillac diner set and vintage gun hairdryers you’ll love it. I haven’t yet had my hair done by these talented ladies but I nipped in with a friend who wants them to do her hair for her wedding. They were really helpful in pointing out the best way to book and make contact as well as providing a look book of different style options. The ladies you can expect to do your hair present the idyll of rockabilly women and you know that they are highly skilled as they clearly don’t leave the house unless the victory rolls are in place, They offer a vintage hair styling experience, you let them know what vintage style and the number of victory rolls and the price is based upon the type of style you pick. I saw two ladies get there hair done and they seemed really pleased with the result as well as look fabulous. If you think your hair may bit that smidge too short then you can always nip in for a retro root beer or cherry root beer drink instead.
