Lasan Eatery is the little sister to the award winning Lasan restaurant just off St Paul’s Square. I must admit I was a little disappointed with their food especially in relation to the price and the wonderful eating experience I’ve had at their main establishment. I ordered food to go and spent much more than I would normally on a takeaway. The nice thing they do which you can’t always get at an Indian takeaway are dosas. The dosa I had was pretty good and the other food was fairly nice. However, I was expecting something a bit special and this wasn’t. They do have a wonderful eatery club that is currently free to join and gives you some good discounts including 50% off a cookery class and a £10 voucher for Lasan proper.

I don’t understand why Lasan is so highly rated? It has won the curry awards for 4 years running. but. it lacks taste! I ordered 4 curries, and all being at a poor taste level. What can say is they use expensive meats and seafoods(amazng king prawn pieces) but to me if it doesn’t taste good then I can’t class it as a good or excellent curry. My visit to Lasan was very disappointing.

Lasan Eatery is a bold venture in Hall Green as it is designed, I think to be a place that you don’t hang about in but go and enjoy the good food and then pretty much skidaddle! It is located in the heart of Hall Green suburbia, opposite Waitrose. The night we went with friends it was pretty quiet as it was a Sunday. We didn’t live locally so we hadn’t ventured there on a Friday or Saturday as you can’t pre book tables and we didn’t want to turn up to be turned away! I think the lack of pre booking is rather short sighted and doesn’t reward customer loyalty. After all you can book and still be in and out in a couple of hours here. In the light of economic circumstances, perhaps they will change this policy. On to the food though — it is absolutely fantastic, really fresh, innovative and good value for money. We did order starters and mains but I think next time I’d just stick to a main as they are quite large portions(I had salmon, which also came with a dal) and really filling. The service was really efficient but friendly. It is a small place so I think it can probably get quite busy and I don’t know if you might tn feel rushed. It is really worth a try and they do deliver locally(sadly not to me!) — I would love them to venture to my neck of the woods and open another Eatery near me. This place is related by the way to the Lasan restaurant just off St Pauls Square, which is my favourite restaurant in the city.
