Kingfisher is probably the most regular of all of the takeaways in Moseley, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Aiming hard for the bargain end of the market, this is a much better option than most of the neighbouring eateries if you are trying to save a few quid. While they also serve curries you are probably going to plump for the super cheap pizza(a 7″ margarita is just £2) or burger and chips. The menu is pretty big and they usually have offers too. A nice touch is the staff, real friendly chaps which can make a big difference when you have to wait for your food to be cooked.

I’m not a regular visitor to Moseley, but when visiting friends on one occasion, I was told that if I wanted some food(as they were in no way prepared to cook anything for me), my best bet was to go to the Kingfisher fish and chip shop, and ever since that fateful night, I make sure every trip I make to Moseley is marked by a trip to this outstanding eatery. The prices are some of the best I’ve found in Birmingham(and trust me, I’ve looked harder than most. Nothing tastes better than a takeaway pizza when you know you’ve saved 12p on extra pepperoni), with regular pizzas just £2.99 and donner kebabs £2.50. The staff are friendly and always happy to have a chat, unlike many takeaway proprietors. The one slight blot on the Kingfisher’s copybook is that, when ordering pizza, they make it fresh(which is a good thing in one sense), meaning it can be a ten/fifteen minute wait. Don’t let you put that off though, the weight is worth it.

With all the pubs in Moseley, this chip shop /kebab house does a brisk business. I used to live next door but one to this place and was a regular visitor for a while. I occasionally pop in from time to time these days, usually for a cheeky scallop or a piece of fried chicken(which is ok) whilst waiting for a bus up to Kings Heath after a few ales in Moseley Village. The food is pretty standard chip shop fayre and, whilst not up to the standard of somewhere like Dads Lane, or The Frying Pan, which I would recommend you go to if you are sober, in a car and taking the fish and chips home with you, it is nevertheless fairly good for what it is. In all honesty you are most likely to visit this place after you’ve been enjoying the bright lights of Moseley, so you probably won’t notice the difference.

There’s a lot of great places to eat in Moseley, in fact I seem to have reviewed the vast majority of them during my short tenure as a Unilocal Scout. Kingfisher Kebab House is another good Moseley eatery although obviously it’s not in the same fine dining league as the likes of Ponte Di Legno, but that’s because it’s a bog standard Kebab House. If you are heading back towards Kings Heath after a drunken tour of Moseley’s public houses then before you jump on the 50 I suggest you wander in here and sample the greasy goodness. There’s nothing extra special about Kingfisher but with friendly staff and food as good as any other takeaway nearby you won’t be disappointed. Also they deliver so if you haven’t managed to make it out of the door come the weekend, don’t fret because they will bring the calories to you.

Situated directly by Moseley’s busiest interchange, Kingfisher is a takeaway selling the usual array of fish and chips, burgers, doner kebabs and all the other bits and pieces that go with said foodstuffs, like cans of pop and what not. What is there to be said about it that cannot be said about all the other takeawys selling similar products in the area? Well, to be honest, not a lot. It delivers and it opens in the afternoon so you can take the kids there for a cholestrol filled snack after a long day at school. I have heard some complaints about the fish they serve(too much batter, not cooked enough inside), however, as I donot eat fish I cannot either confirm or deny this rumour. Whenever I’ve been in, the staff have always been polite and professional to me. Food wise, it’s adequate, not much better or worse than most of the food served in other takeaways. I expect it to stay this way too, as it’s location probably brings enough passing trade to keep the profits at a reasonable level. In conclusion, yeah, it’s ok, but don’t expect anything too special.

The Kingfisher is a Pakistani/Bangladeshi owned chip shop opposite The Cross pub in Moseley Village. They have chosen the kebab route for their chip shop related enterprise. There is also a selection of Samosa, Pakora, Kofte and Shish. A mega sized chicken kebab sits standing in the neon lit signs of the window of the shop. It was then that I knew what I needed in my life. The chicken kebab came in a pita bread and was covered in a wet stringy salad with a rainbow coloured array of different sauces. The chicken meat in the portion was healthy in size and shape, it looked too good to be true. When I took a bite into the kebab I was surprised that the chicken meat was incredibly salty. I finished the kebab without trying to think about the grams of fat and salt I had just ingested. Apart from the over saltiness, this kebab tasted pretty good. Kingfisher is a great place when razzled by drink. One seems to be unaware of the lack of hygiene and the overuse of microwaves. If you want a cheap feed late at night then this is the perfect place for you.
