I’ve wanted to try this place for a while. I was on my way home and was around Moseley Village. Looks very clean from the outside(puts shame to a lot of fast food shops) It was quite empty when I went. I was the only one there late afternoon. Menu is nice and big at the front. It’s just like KFC without the box meals. I went for chicken burger and thin cut chips. I like how they have both thick and thin cut. I get burgers a lot when I try new places(fast food), it’s one of those food that is simple, but if done it well it’s amazing. If you impress me with your burger then most likely I will want to try more food on menu. So I did go for one… and I was so dissapointed with the burger. It was dry. Chicken fillet was alright, tiny bit of lettuce and mayo with toasted bun. That’s it? I wanted more, I like my burgers juicy/messy/dirty. It was like they were in a hurry or not bothered and there was no other customer. I felt like drinking water everytime I take a bite. Chips were crispy and nice, but how hard can it be to make fries? I wanted to try something else because of all the good reviews, I had to try something else and make my descision of the place. Got pot of popcorn chicken. You can tell pieces were from chicken breast cut in cubes compared to kfc’s popcorn chicken which looks mixed with something else. I did notice as I kept eating more, I tasted black pepper a lot on the chicken(coating). I felt it needed some kind of sauce/dip. I did ask for sauce as was given ketchup packet. I was hoping for a signature Allen’s sauce but whatever. I tried give this place a chance to impress me and was let down. Good word of mouth from friends and reviews, I was so sure I was going to love this place. The shop stands out from the other businesses, it looks like a quality shop. I walked out confused thinking something is wrong with me, or maybe had my hopes too high that it wasn’t going to live up to it. Little pricey for fast food shop. If food had been amazing I wouldn’t have thought about money. For what I paid for It’s not worth it. I’ve had better for cheaper 2.5 Stars

On a pub crawl? Had a few drinks? Feeling peckish? Well this is the place to check out. Although Allen’s is a northern chain, this fried chicken establishment stands strong in Moseley, Birmingham. Their famous double decker burger is the bestseller here. Burgers, Chicken bites, strips, hot wings and Buffalo wings available here. I tried the pot of 10 spicy Buffalo wings and they certainly hit the spot. The thick cut chips are crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside… I never thought I’d get so passionate about chips until i tried Allen’s chips. Prices are similar to KFC, i would recommend this place as a break from the norm when it comes to fried chicken. There are 6 tables inside, a good minimalistic setup. Good customer service. Take away option available. In my view winner winner chicken dinner.

£3.50 for a small, and it was small, portion of traditional chips which were not it fact traditional chips but frozen thick produced fries. Thankfully they were defrosted and cooked … as a Moseley resident I’ll be giving this place a miss and suggesting to friends to do the same.

Replacing the space previously occupied by Mo’Jam in the village in the city is this shop specialising in chicken and chips. With three chip shops nearby, does Moseley need another? Maybe. One is a bit dire and the other has some weird opening hours. The first thing that strikes you on entering is how and clean and well-lit is Allen’s is. There are text-based murals on the wall describing the taste sensations of the food that you will experience. Coming on like an indie KFC they sell chicken pieces, strips, burgers and bites. A limited menu makes for shorter waiting times, and everyone is a fan of that. A unique selling point at Allen’s is that you can have GRAVY on your chips which will bring a smile to the mouths of homesick Northerners. There’s another USP in that you can eat al fresco too, as there are tables outside. While a main roadside might not immediately strike you as an appealing place to eat, on this sunny October afternoon as I eat my chips and watch T-shirted people in sunglasses stroll by there’s a kind of urban seaside vibe going on.
