This stall is particularly easy to find as it’s right on the edge of the Open Market, opposite St Martin’s Church. And if the directions don’t get you there, there’s a good chance the incredibly loud stall owner’s voice will guide you there. The main focus here is eggs, and lots of em. Small eggs, large eggs, duck eggs(mmmh, duck eggs), free range eggs, trays of eggs for bargain prices. There are other products available, such as the homemade pies and bread that they had on offer last time I was there, but if you don’t like eggs, there’s not a lot here that’s going to interest you. This is stall was another port of call on my weekly trips to the market last summer, a period of my life when my weekly shopping budget would be little more than twenty pounds a week. Like many of the stalls on the Outdoor Market, I came to rely on the Egg Stall to sell me a large slice of my weekly food rations. I can’t remember ever being dissatisfied with the service or prices, though I do remember being glad it was there. The Birmingham Outdoor Markets are under threat because the nearby wholesale markets in Digbeth that many of these traders rely on maybe forced to close. If any of the markets in this area were to close, I for one would be sad to see them go.
