Dilshad is an award winning Indian restaurant and if you have read my previous reviews you will not doubt be aware that I love a good Indian. The restaurant has even been awarded a five star rating by the Balti guide, high praise indeed. It is a relaxed and enjoyable place in which to enjoy an Indian either with a group of mates or with a close family group. Dilshad has been around since 1978 so although many Birmingham curry houses may have popped up as part of a more recent passion for curry in Birmingham the good people here have been using their knowledge and expertise for decades. Dilshad essentially represents quality as you can always be assured of a great meal and a charming experience as the staff and chefs work in harmony to provide the customers with the best of Birmingham Balti.

I have been using the Dilshad Resturant since I was 18. I am now 47. Over the years I have loved going to the restuarant and eating the food. Sometimes going there three times a week. However, I will no longer be using the Dilshad Restaurant again. About 18 months ago I visited the restaurant with my husband and decided to have an ice cream for dessert, something I very rarely do. Half way through the dessert I felt a sharp pain in my mouth and blood cam pouring out of my mouth. I thought I had chewed on a piece of ice it turned out to be glass. We complained to the waiter who not only seemed totally uninterested, but implied I had done it to myself. We were still given a bill for the entire meal. Despite this, we have continued to use the Dilsahd based on many years happy eating. However, last night we ordered a take away. We waited over an hour for it be delivered, and despite clearly saying the address three times over the phone, we were telephoned by the driver who had the wrong house number. The food finally arrived stone cold, and was wrong. We ordered two chicken balti’s and what we got resembled a bowl of watery soup with very little chicken. We were very very disappointed and feel we can no longer remain customers of the Dilshad. After many many years of service we feel very let down.

Shabby looking from the outside, but don’t be put off; this is some of the best curry you’ll get on the Bristol Road. The menu is more concise than some of the others on this stretch, but still plenty to choose from, and the offerings are that little bit more fancy. Baltis and currys are on offer, with plenty of veggie options, Halal and vegan. Karahi dishes really reccommended. And its still cheap– £10-£15 per head for a really substantial three course meal. Service also good. Definatley recommended!
