Morning coffee part II. I must have walked past this place 1000 times and thought it was closed down… today I found out why! It is simply not open on weekends, and is not on my short walk to work! I went in this morning and was quickly welcomed by the owner, he was chatty and polite making me my coffee while I had a look around. I have to say the coffee was average, but how friendly the staff are makes up for that. If you want some friendly chat and a warm welcome to start your day, this place is worth a try.

Deli Heaven is a modestly-sized sandwich shop and café located a minute’s walk from St. Paul’s Square. Made conspicuous by its graffiti-styled signage, I found the place to be very popular with the local workforce. This has the unfortunate side-effect of making it quite difficult to actually get inside the shop, and when you do get inside it can be a little crowded. Because of the lack of space coupled with small crowds of people gathered, waiting for their sandwiches and soups, it can be hard to determine where the queue starts and where it ends. Small gripes aside, the service at Deli Heaven is very friendly, and their choice is reasonable if not spectacular. Prices are decent enough for Hockley, and despite there usually only being one person behind the counter, you are not kept waiting long for your food. The food itself is pretty good, although somehow I ended up with a burned baguette. I also had a soup, which was a vegetable medley containing some more exotic ingredients a nice change from the staple potato and leek or minestrone.
