Felt like I needed a little sit down before work, stumbled upon this place. Reviewing from inside the shop! I’m tucked away quietly in a corner, it’s very relaxed and I have an amazing chai tea latte. I ordered a yogurt/granola pot and it was delicious. I was served real quick and I feel very relaxed now. Definitely recommend if you want a little quiet time.

Two words– Student Discount! I go here every week to study and get my «coffee house» fill here in the UK. The coffee is okay(I have yet to find a coffee house I love) but the service is wonderful and the chairs are comfy. You can sit downstairs and people watch while you enjoy the chill music or you can go upstairs and have a little more seclusion. The mince pies are yummy, especially with gingerbread whipped cream. So good! The Americano is my usual drink, and it’s good. I tried the chai last week and wasn’t a fan. It’s not as sweet as American chai. The gingerbread latte is a weaker taste than I’m used to. Looks like I will stick with the Americano! This coffee house is a little off the main road and close enough to the Catherdral to still enjoy a little green in the city. You get 45 min of free internet, so don’t come here expecting to watch an entire movie online. 45 min goes fast. I highly recommend this place for an afternoon of reading or catching up with friends. Merry Christmas!

There was a time when Birmingham had a number of Coffee Republics. Since their buyout in late 2009, they’ve seen a number of stores close worldwide, meaning that Birmingham is now left with just a single outlet. Located where the Great Western Arcade crosses Temple Row, Coffee Republic is in a prime position for the legion of office-based workers nearby, as well as those passing through on their way to the cathedral square. Personally, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for the place, largely because they offer a great variety of every kind of drink from teas, coffees and hot chocolates to cold drinks such as fruit smoothies and milkshakes. They specialise in branded milkshakes such as Rolos, Jaffa Cakes and(my personal favourite) Oreo Cookies, which all too frequently lure me in during my lunch hour and when I’m in town doing shopping. Coffee Republic offers free WiFi to customers, and there is a fair amount of seating on both levels of the café. The décor is simple yet stylish, but due to the corporate colour scheme favouring darker hues although the fact that this branch only has one daylight-facing side(overshadowed as it is by a nearby office block), meaning the place can be rather dark and dingy, especially at night or on an overcast day. It can take an age to get served, and even when you do place your order the whole process can be an exercise in patience as you wait for the staff to look up the recipe for your chosen drink. If they were for some reason constantly training new staff I would understand, but surely there must be some procedure in place to ensure at least one member of staff is fully trained and in place to assist the customer while their protégé runs around fetching the ingredients of their order? Another gripe I have is that despite CR’s obvious third place position to Starbucks and Costa, they seem to think they can still justify prices that match and in some cases exceed their competitors. The place is usually quite busy, but surely it wouldn’t hurt them to trim the prices a little and get the place really buzzing?

Great little café to watch the crowds go by. There is free wifi in the café and it is very quiet compared to the busy crowds passing by. Very near to St Pauls Cathedral and Snow Hill station. Great place to relax in the busy city centre.
