From Chandni Chowk to England. I’m sure Bollywood fans will know what word I have changed from a recent film title. Anyway enough about the Indian version of Hollywood, this restaurant and sweet centre is one of many to be based on Soho Road in Handsworth. I haven’t been in the restaurant section here but just from looking at it, it seems a cosy place to eat in and the atmosphere is decent as well. The staff are excellent and I have had no issues with them whatsoever. I have only been in the sweet centre but I have to say there are so many sweets to select from. The only problem is the price. I found the sweets on offer were on the expensive side and that’s what put me off from buying them. But having said that, this is a lovely place to take family and friends to and I will at some point go into the restaurant section and see what the food is like. The sweets I tasted from this place were decent and the barfis were brilliant.

Chandni Chowk Restaurant is named after a busy central Delhi area that is renowned for a rich mix of cuisines, cultures and faiths. This has been reflected in the menu of the restaurant, which offers dishes inspired from across India. It is also a take-away and sweet centre, so has a mouth-watering selection of sweet dishes as soon as you enter. There’s often a hot jalebi(Indian sweet) stand outside the restaurant, which is irresistible on a cold day! My absolute favourite dish is the butter chicken with garlic naan. It’s a very rich, creamy sauce with succulent pieces of chicken. I’ve never come across a better version of the dish elsewhere! However, they could improve their hygiene. I’ve been twice when the table had not been cleaned properly since the previous diners had left, yet we were sat down. The chutney stand always looks grimy, so I’d avoid it!

A favourite of mine located in the heart of Soho Road. They have a great and well prepared menu in here, which is a great place to dine whether your just after lunch, snacks or a nice evening meal. The service is delightful, but does get a bit slow when they get busy. Both myself and my family enjoy dining here, the food is very good, with authentic Indian cooking and traditional food, it’s hard to beat this one, and there are not that many other places which can produce quality food like these can. We usually have vegetarian samosas and pakoras for starters, a vegetable curry(try the Gobi aloo), with chapatis, or paranthas(fried bread). They even have little trays on the tables with chutney, yogurt and dips for your snacks. The TV gets a little loud, and although it’s nice how they play the Indian Bollywood movies, sometimes you just want a nice family meal in peace. Although we didn’t mind it. They do think of everything in here, from brightly coloured napkins to the lovely décor. Worth a visit, very reasonably priced, and good quality fresh food. Sweets are also available at the counter for takeaway.
