Great Champagne bar! Nice selection of wines by the glass, friendly service and although we didn’t eat here the food looked good. The ambiance is contemporary — restaurant /bar and in the middle what looked like a fire pit! Not lit… If you like wine /Champagne don’t miss this place.

Bar Epernay is a civilised and chilled out bar specialising in wine and champagne. On Friday evenings you can get a bottle of champagne for £20 which is pretty much the only time I head here! The champagne is good but mainly I like the atmosphere as they have students from Birmingham Conservertoire playing the grand piano. It’s so lovely to sit and listen with a glass of champagne! They also do cocktails which are pretty good if not very inventive. There is a large area for diners but more people seem to drink than eat here. I have had the food and it was fine but nothing to write home about! For drinks you can order at the bar but they do table service for food. Staff are competent and friendly without being intrusive.

Occasionally to celebrate something special, be it a birthday, anniversary or just the fact that you’ve made it through ’til Wednesday you want to go somewhere a little classy… Bar Epernay describes itself as Birmingham’s première champagne bar and while I’m not about to go ordering a magnum and swing from the Moet bell, it does demonstrate a certain level of luxury that I wouldn’t get from my bottle of house white in my local spoons(phew) My first visit was in a large group at Chrismas en route to Rodizio Rico(also worth a visit) and even though very busy, the service and atmosphere were still top notch. At £5.50 for a flute of prosecco and £7.25 for champagne the prices were reasonable for what we wanted and the lush surroundings made for a good beginning to our evening. Nothing I hadn’t seen before but I wasn’t about to go running and screaming either. My second was a decadent affair after my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch at Miller and Carter and fancied a posh drink to accompany the ‘lady of leisure image’ ha. With us being the only people in there at 3pm on a Wednesday, the place was our playground as we took to the comfy sofas and the waitress tempted us with a Palma Violet style cocktail, which as it happened was rather tasty indeed. Sometimes when you enter a place during the ‘graveyard shift’ you can be left to your own devices and feel unattended to while the manager sits and studies till receipts. But here it was far from it, we were very much welcomed to the point we didn’t want to leave. Admittedly I’m not about to make it my local(and I wouldn’t advise it for a first date as they will expect the flash treatment every time) but if it’s a one off bit of luxury you’re after you’ve found the right place.

Bar Epernay describes itself as Birmingham’s première champagne and piano bar but on a recent visit I felt that it was lacking that special something. Perhaps I picked the wrong night to try this place out. I had thought of Epernay as a sophisticated joint but I have to say that, for me, it didn’t live up to this impression. It was a Saturday night so I expected the bar to be busy, but the bar area was crowded with loud and lary groups who completely drowned out the pianist in the corner, which really wasn’t what I had expected to find. The décor is smart and quite traditional, the main feature being a large wood burner/chimney thing in the middle of the bar(not sure if this functions in the winter — would be nice). The lighting is quite bright and I think the atmosphere would benefit from lower lighting. Despite this, I can’t complain about the service, which was fast and friendly, or the drinks. Adam S. and I both went for champagne cocktails, which were really very nice and looked great too. The drinks menu has plenty of great sounding cocktails and a wide variety of champagne, as you’d expect. For £20 you can get a Bubble Board(prosecco and sharing board), which sounded nice. Furthermore, on Fizz Day Fridays Epernay offers some very attractive prices on bottles of champagne, including £19.95 for a bottle of Chandon Brut. I’ll have to revisit Epernay, avoiding Saturdays, to see if the atmosphere is any better on other nights and may then revise my starring!

With my friend down from Manchester I wanted to show him that Birmingham has some rather nice venues. It’s been a while since I visited Bar Epernay. So I wasn’t sure what to expect. Cocktails we the order of the day and we had three each.(Hic!) I felt slightly under dressed in my trainers and jeans around a bunch of couples who were out or dinner and drinks. The customers were certainly more upscale than those next door at Bar Room Bar. My Cosmo was very tasty. I tried a «Lemon Meringue» cocktail which also lived up to expectations though I’m sure it would be far too sweet for some people. A piano in the corner of the venue added to the atmosphere. Worth a visit if you haven’t been.

This bar is really nice, great atmosphere ambience, great décor, really nice for dates or just if you want a nice intimate meal with your girls. The service is excellent(thank you to the waiter that served us). Very kind and helpful at all times. Love every moment of it. Loved the food! The dessert for me was not 100% but the food was amazing. Love the piano playing in the back, adds a very authentic feel to the place. Thank you epernay!

This is a classy establishment which unsurprisingly gets busy at weekends. My first impressions were good, with the décor being light and elegantly decorated with the staff being attentive. The bar and restaurant area are set out well with a central ‘hub’ of circular seating whereby you can relax with your drink by the fire with diners tucking into their food around the rest of the room. At weekends, you are treated to a pianist tinkering the ivories which adds to the atmosphere. A place I will be returning to so I can try out the food.

This premier champagne bar located near the Mailbox in Birmingham may attract the big spenders of the city, but it also makes room for life’s simpletons, like myself. Priding itself on the expensive champagne industry, Bar Epernay offers a wide variety of champagne and as you may well expect, they’re not cheap. However, if you’re heading down on a Friday, between 3.00pm and 7.00pm, you are able to purchase a bottle of house champagne for £19.75, rather than the usual £35.00 per bottle. The atmosphere inside the bar is fairly relaxed considering the amount of money some people must be spending in there. The staff are as you would expect in such a well regarded establishment are immaculately presented and just as helpful/friendly. On the basis of this review, my three star rating may seem a little harsh, perfect location, great service, occasional champagne deals? The only disappointment is the overall price of drinks. I would personally feel unable to have a good time in there for more than a couple of drinks in fear on going in to my overdraft. Other than that, Bar Epernay seems to be a great spot for the targeted audience, but maybe not for the likes of me.

I loved going to Bar Epernay with my girly friends because once there, we felt *so* young and *so* trendy simply in contrast to the rest of the clientele! No insult intended — it serves a purpose, and that purpose is expensive champagne and slightly posher than normal pub grub! It’s a classy joint with a piano player on weekend evenings and they serve a DELICIOUS elderflower martini(yum!) If you’re visiting the Mailbox for drinks, and find some of the other watering holes full of loutish men, then this is the place to head to for a slightly classier experience.

The French town of Epernay is the home of champagne. Birmingham’s Bar Epernay is home to folks feeling terribly proud of themselves for being able to afford a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. I have no problem with that, congratulations to them! Alas, my budget restricts me to the perfectly acceptable house champagne(£35.00 a bottle) and, after a couple of glasses, I really can’t tell the difference. Bar Epernay feels like walking into a Moët commercial — immaculately dressed folk with glossy hair, all milling about in a bar that glows gold with aspiration. There’s a grand piano and a roaring fire. The bar staff ring a bell every time someone buys a bottle of champagne, which I think is meant to be some sort of retail psychology trick. I really like the champagne flutes that they use, they feel sturdy rather the flimsy. The cocktails make a great alternative for when you are over the bubbly stuff. Food is served and looks good– though I’m yet to taste.

The name doesn’t quite live up to expectations. I found this place a little lacking in atmosphere, and tables(and floor) could have done with a deep clean, and it was early evening so really not too much of an excuse — it all felt a little sticky and grimy i’m afraid. On the positive side the wine was well chilled, very quaffable, and the sharing plate we ordered was quite tasty, though there were a couple of dishes that didn’t really belong on a greek tasting plate(morrocan style raisin chutney?) but overall inoffensive and staved off our appetites for a couple of hours until dinner. One other niggle — we all commented on the fact that it took a long time to get any service, and then an age before our drinks appeared. For an environment of this type if you’re going to do at table service then staff should have their own areas — it makes we the punter feel more welcome and improves turnaround between ordering and getting drinks. Also(a pet hate of mine) when staff visit the table they should automatically clear away empties… rant over.

Bar Epernay was an enjoyable night. Im a champagne lover and the variety was excellent. Its a nice stylish place to relax with some lovely drinks. The only downside I think is its quite tucked away in location, right in the corner. None the less I would definately go again.

Although not cheap, Epernay is always a very relaxing, enjoyable experience. The staff and managent are particularly friendly, helpful & knowledgable. The food is first rate, and the champagne, wine range excellent. Highly recommended. The piano player adds to the very pleasant atmosphere.

The bar is really excellent and the food is very high quality. There is often a girl playing piano in a spinny place in the window wich is just fantastic because she is really v ery good and it really adds to the atmosphere. The food is very good and you can tell that it has been sourced from great produce. Very good place for students or couples

Bar Epernay is located at the exclusive development of the Mailbox. The bar encompasses surroundings of elegance and sophistication within a stylish setting. It serves freshly prepared pasta, salads, meat and fish dishes and has an extensive wine, café and dessert list. This is a good place to make a chat with friends.
