While maybe not being the top top quality restaurant it was several years ago, I enjoyed The Square a lot while their for dinner last night… The lay-out and design of both downstairs and upstairs is brilliant while very different and the tables were very spaced out with was strange by today’s standards where restaurant try to cram everyone in but we were sitting upstairs. Staff were all very friendly and the waiter tried his best to find us a wine we would like, of which we tried several. I ordered the crab and salmon fish cakes and the cod with chorizo and cannelloni beans and both were very nicely cooked but just lacked something for me but the table as a consensus were split as three really enjoyed their meals(prawns, sirloin steaks and chilli squid) Large amounts of sides were included for the table of 5 of us which didn’t get finished. There is a large selection of specialities at The Square and I also tried the garlic prawn starter which is £13.95 for a starter!!! But it was rather delicious. Overall a very nice place.

The square is nice. The atmosphere and staff are spot on for an enjoyable evening but it simply hasn’t kept up with the standards of fine dining in Belfast. It used to be one of the finest restaurants in the city but it’s no longer in the same league as the likes of Shu or Howard Street.

The square is an upmarket restaurant based on the Dublin road in Belfast and had a posh classy feel to it which is reflected in its prices. Its a great place to go for a date or a birthday celebration. I went there for dinner and the A La Carte menu is divine! I had the crispy duck with caramelised orange sauce and it was heavenly! The duck was cooked really well and the sauce was fab! I followed this with the rhubarb crumble which was really nice and the portion not too big that you would feel the need to be rolled out the door! Its a really nice glamorous evening venue and I would recommend getting glammed up for it!

I dined in The Square for the first time last week. Everything was fantastic — the surroundings and atmosphere are very relaxing and pleasant, the service was spot on, and the food was great. Wonderful sweet potato soup, perfectly cooked beef with béarnaise… but you have to believe me(and Paula, the previous reviewer) — you’ll want to hug the chef who does the desserts. Awesome crème brulée. Don’t deny yourself the pleasure of trying this lovely(and very reasonable) restaurant.

The Square is a pretty upmarket restaurant on the Dublin Road so it’s close to lots of bars etc if you want to start your big night out here. The food is fab and what I love is that when I leave the Square I don’t feel overloaded on rich food and heavy sauces. In some restaurants the food is so rich I can sometimes feel ominous ‘she’s gonna blow’ type gurglings in my tum before I’ve even had dessert. For me it’s the kind of place you dress up to go to and it feels pretty glam. I can recommend the crayfish and mango salad to start and the hake tempura for main course. Both are delish and sort of healthy. If you stick to a side of mixed leaves, I think you deserve chocolate brownie or crème brûlée afterwards. If I had to choose one dessert, it would be the crème brûlée which is just sinfully good. Wash it all down with a chilled Wolf Blass white at a not too scary £19 and you’ll love the Square as much as I do.

Food really good, seems to have a very loyal base of regulars. Staff attentive and friendly. Understated surroundings and concise wine list
