This place, like many of the places in the odyssey had big plans for itself. When it first opened it had an almost exclusive feel and people were being turned away at the door. Now it’s lucky if people even walk past the door. Like many of the places in the rapidly ageing Odyssey, it’s novelty value has vanished and its loosing customers to the city centre once again. Personally I never seen why anyone would like this place, or any other of the torture pits the odyssey calls/called clubs. It was horrible, the drinks, once you had waited a million for one, were nothing special and the crowd who went were mostly fools and arses out for trouble.

Now, some people may call me a snob and some of them may be right but I think this place is a cultureless vacumn fit only for people who want to go out, get wrecked, pull and enjoy whatever chart topping rubbishh that is forced down their ears by some no-mark DJ wwith two earings and shit tattoos.(I am exageratting for comic effect, I have no idea what the DJ looks like in this place so I apologise if the DJ has tattoos and I’m sure they’re perfectly nice). The music in here was always rubbish, the service at the bar was never above passable and I never had a good night in here. Granted, I only ever went here twice on work nights out but I found the entire experience to be deplorable. But then again, I’m sure somebody else would find it a good night out. Its clean and tidy and there was never any trouble any time I was in. Basic hygiene and personal safety are the only things keeping this place from getting a 1-star rating.

Bar Seven. It started out so promising. It was decorated so tastefully. But it just wasn’t to be. Situated in the Odyssey arena, a location only 10 years old, has aged badly and does not attract the classiest of crowds at the best of times, Bar Seven was intended to be a classy, yuppie type bar. Sadly it didn’t quite work out. That’s not to say it couldn’t be a half decent night out. The drink was reasonably priced and the music just passed as being OK. However, on any given Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, you could be guaranteed that there would be at least two hen parties there. And not the nice type. The rowdy, pink L-Plate, blow up man brandishing, dangly-willy earring wearing crazy types. It could have been, it should have been, but it just wasn’t.

I’ve a vague and patchy memory of this place, located one the second floor of Belfast’s jack of all trades, master of none — child friendly, American inspired bar and food filled, The Odyssey. This was one of the first bars to open here and was the venue of one of my first ‘work outings’ over seven years ago(which came after a lengthy and hazy bowling session on the ground floor. Bar 7 is a fairly typical modern wine bar, laid back, a little bit snooty(only a little) doused in dark wood, black fixtures and fittings and smartly lit. I drank all manner of things while I was here, the usual being a well poured(if a little chilly) Guinness among many other things(including some form of Baileys concoction and a dram of the green fairy) The crowd is a mixture of persons in the thirties, out for a quiet drink following a hearty meal at one of the neighbouring restaurants. At the weekends it’s much more of a ‘night out’ type place, younger, heavier drinkers leering and leeching on whatever moves. I had a good night when I was here but the alcohol may have shaped my opinion at the time…

Mildly embarrassing story about my only time in here. We seen a massive poster outside it after we had been to see McFly that said ‘McFly After Party’ and after consuming our respective body weight in alcohol, me and my girlfriend called in here thinking we could meet Dougie and Harry and Tom and the fourth one… Turns out if they were there or not was irrelevant because we ended up drinking McFly’s body weight in alcohol! It turned out it was just us keeping the bar open but sure nevertheless it was a great night. Bar Seven is a really classy bar, well laid out and a terrific little place to drink. I have taken a star off it because like everything in the Odyssey, it is just too far away to go for a night out. Had it been located beside the University, I would be there every week. Unfortunately for £10 taxi, I can’t see myself going back unless McFly play again… Here’s hoping!

Seems to be totally dead through the week with trade only picking up at the weekends. Located in the odyssey arena complex. Large well equiped bar that is good on a sat night.
