Not only am I an American foodie/chef… But I was absolutely blown away by the Sunday Roast I had on our visit last month. From the melt in your mouth prime rib to the yorkshire pudding and YES the roasted veggies rocked my world as well. I take back every culinary slight I have ever made toward pub food! If you are in or around Bath make and effort to stop into the HOPPOLE. Even the wine was lovely. See you next time.

Solid food options, with a lot of typical pub fare. They had a take on Beef Wellington(look it up if you don’t know) that didn’t have beef, but like 3 kinds of vegetables. So that’s good if you’re vegetarian. Service was awesome, just like any pub, order at the bar, and they’ll run a tab for you if you’re going to order more beers or dessert. They bring the food to your table. Bath Ales owns this pub, so their beers are the mainstay. There was also Budvar(the original Budwesier — SOLIDCHOICE) and a couple of others. I was mostly interested in the local cask ales though, and the fall seasonal, Wild Hare, was an excellent choice. I didn’t see it until I was paying, but they also had a 7.3% beer(which was likely the highest ABV I saw all week) which I think was their«Double Gem», Gem being their amber ale. The Dark Side stout was also nicely done.

This place was phenomenal! I created a Unilocal account just so I could write a review. When you are traveling, eating out can always be hit and miss, but this was certainly a hit! And not to be missed. We had the fish and chips and the lamb pie, both of which were delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and the wait staff were kind and helpful. I would return to bath just to eat here again!

Busy on a Saturday afternoon. Family friendly pub with local beer. They have lots of board games, and they serve local bath beer. They also serve the most amazing tasting spicy nuts!

Cute pub! Our hotel hostess suggested this place as well as another restaurant up by the Royal Crescent. We decided to try the Hop Pole because it was less expensive. Diverse crowd — college kids and older folks. Great customer service — bartender was really nice and helpful. Casual but fun atmosphere. It wasn’t too loud so you can have conversations in here. As for the food, it was quite good. I had the special which was chicken, ham and leek pie with potatoes and a pint of the Bath SPA beer for 10 pounds. I really enjoyed the pie — one of the best dishes I had in the UK. I’d definitely eat here again. I came with my mom and she liked the place too.

While the Hop Pole does not look inviting from the outside, it’s façade hides plenty. A bar with a good selection of beers and Ales including a wide selection from the Bath Ales Brewery(who own the pub), a great kitchen, a lot of nooks and crannkies to have conversations and one of the best beer gardens I have seen in long time. This is a great example of not judging a book by it’scover, if the weather is good, make a beeline to teh Hop Pole and I am sure you won’t be disappointed. I wasn’t.

This is a truly awesome pub for coming to with a bunch of mates, especially in the summer, where you’re so close to Victoria Park and you also have the option of sitting in the fine outdoor area round the back. They serve the complete range of Bath Ales products, which is always a boon in my eyes, plus they stock a range of fruit beers that the ladies seem to love — too sweet for my liking. They also show the footy and cricket at various points in the year, although the screens aren’t huge, so don’t expect it to be the best place for cheering your team on. Other than that, though, this place is awesome.

I ate here a few nights ago and must say that the Steak and triple cooked chips that i had were delicious! However a slight negative would be that it must’ve been the smallest menu i’ve ever seen, about 10 items total including the 3 desserts if i recall correctly! Also, being a Bath Ales pub it has some lovely beers to sample :-)

One of the Bath Ales small chain of pubs. Brilliant in every aspect. Close to Victoria Park. Wonderful range of beers, great atmosphere. Good food and probably the best beer garden in town. Highly recommended.
