Jika Jika, crazy cat name that I can’t remember the story behind. It’s a café for hipsters for sure. I should know, my nephew is one, so I feel I have an ‘in’ into the hipster world. On a day I like to think as Monsoon Day in Bath, yours truly had affected the guise of tourist, tramping around in a rain jacket and trying to avoid rain drops going up my nose, I took refuge here based on recommendation. Jika Jika is one of those places where I am just never sure what to do — is it a order at the bar deal, seat yourself or please wait to be seated — and woe betide the contempt if you don’t naturally know the answer. I failed — and had to ask. The only table available was for 4 and I wanted to eat(I later discovered a wee note requesting folk to not sit at large tables on their own… oops, but how was I going to eat soup in an armchair?!). I checked out a coconut milkshake(nice, but not coconutty enough for me, more milky than anything) and a smoked haddock chowder. The chowder was where the pretensions started to come through — what I expected(hearty chowdery fare), and what I got was a deconstruction of a soup. It was pleasant enough, though underseasoned, and needed some help in the flavour department. It seems a popular enough place and be warned — has a unisex toilet for those not comfortable with the concept. For the price(7 quid for soup), it’s not the cheapest option for dining and not entirely convinced it was worth it either. But it was a welcome stop in from the torrential April downpour, and for that I was grateful to have a place to dry out for a little while.

Jikka Jikka is a very interesting spot. Great location in Bath. Mid-range menu with some interesting options including flat-breads. They had a few nice beers as well(my favorite Delerium Tremens made an appearance) I had the Mozzeralla di buffalo on a tomato and thyme base. It was decent, but certainly not anything to write home about. The size was a bit small, I but for 3 pounds it was a good deal. I think a lot of the charm if this place is the atmosphere. It combines a bar, a coffee shop, and a restaurant pretty well. Jikka Jikka has a very nice dining area with a beautiful sky light and interesting pictures on all of the walls. Jikka Jikka also has a very interesting story associate with the restaurant name. From the Jikka Jikka site «Very little accurate information exists about King Jika Jika. Some say that he was secretly „Her Majesties observer of Paranormal activities“ but he is better known for being a coffee planter, amateur ethnologist, entomologist, absinthe distiller, photographer, treasure hunter, and renowned barista. Jika Jika Coffee House & Canteen in pays homage to his legacy and all that he discovered on his travels.» If you in Bath for the day or the weekend, Jikka Jikka is a quality place to stop for a drink or a meal.
I’m fan of this nice place with great coffee and excellent top– Bath service
