Renting as a student always has the problem that the lettings agency basically has you by the nethers, and they know it. Homelets certainly did, they took weeks to get on top of repairs and, of course, they wanted a slice of our deposit when we left. Estate agents are apparently prone to the kind of selective blindness and hallucination that lead them to see damage where there is none, but makes them blind to how, for example, we had to retile the whole bathroom because it was falling apart.
Anyway, my advice to any prospective tenants is to read their schedule of condition reports very carefully (and insist on seeing the accompanying photographs, since we didn’t get to see them until after we were charged). Do be sure to point out anything they may have, completely by accident I’m sure, omitted.
