A lovely big, safe park in the perfect location. Kids can play in the playarea, play tennis, football or go on nature hunts. The beach is 2 minutes walk away and there are two lovely cafes just around the corner. There is also a lake, with botas for hire in the summer, and a skate park 2 minutes away. For a fun, free [or relatively cheap] day out year round it is a really good choice.

This attractive and steeply sloping park has large areas of lawn, formal borders, a small arboretum, bowling green and tennis courts. The gardens were laid out at the end of the 19th century, and my grandfather played football here before going on to become a professional soccer player, so it has a close family connection for me.
The park is busy with families, children and students on sunny days — a great place for kicking a ball about, or maybe flying a kite (so long as you stay away from the trees!). It’s just a stone’s throw from the Knap Gardens and beach at Cold Knap, but tends to be more sheltered.
