I have been wanting to try Uluru restaurant for ages since it moved to its new Market Street location. Luckily today I got the opportunity to do just this when I met a friend for lunch in Armagh. I’ve always really liked Uluru which is an Australian bistro, now I love it even more! The new restaurant is warm, welcoming and beautifully designed. Service was great, wine beautiful and food luscious. I had a gorgeously delicious goats cheese salad(goats cheese mousse, poached pears, roasted beetroot and mini poppadoms) accompanied by a side of hand-cut chips. All was washed down with a couple of glasses of lovely, smooth Chardonnay. Heavenly food. Uluru still offer a separate, dedicated vegetarian menu which is great to see and I cannot wait to sample all the vegetarian dishes listed. Top marks to Uluru, who I now reckon are one of the best restaurants in Northern Ireland. I would highly recommend this brilliant restaurant — it’s definitely worth the trip to Armagh for a brunch, lunch or dinner.

I was staying at the City Hotel and this is a pleasant walk away — slightly uphill and over cobblestones(so maybe not so pleasant if it is icy). It has a small interior — maybe 9 tables — and a small staff(but I’m not sure that’s the usual). They had crocodile steaks on special, but a co-worker warned they have a fishy taste. I was not brave and had a fillet steak with champ and sweet potato fries. Luckily one of my companions ordered the kangaroo steak and let me have a bite. It was really good and I’m not sure if it had been served to me as beef I would have noticed the difference. It had a lot more flavor than my fillet despite being a little more done. They had a great selection of drinks, starters, and desserts and the service was friendly. Being from the U.S. with two companions from Scotland, we didn’t understand everything on the menu descriptions but weren’t sure what was peculiar to Ireland and what Australia but the staff answered our questions.
