A good local spot to get porridge. They have breakfast combos in the mid-$ 20 range. I’ve tried their seafood porridge and minced beef, as well as their turnip cake, vegetarian and plain rice rolls. –Porridge — Their porridges are fine and have the necessary ingredients. There is no fluff to them and they give you the standard. –Steamed turnip cake — I really like this, because it feels very home-made. Unlike ones in dim sum restaurants that are in rectangles and generally pan-fried, these are steamed in a pan and they cut out a piece for you. A VERYLARGE piece. But definitely yummy! –Vegetarian steamed rice roll — You can add the amount of soy sauce you want and their rice roll was good as well. –Plain rice rolls — You can add your own sauces, such as peanut sauce, hot sauce, and hoisin sauce along with sesame. I really like this because you can get the mix of flavors you like(for me it’s everything on it) and they give you a really substantial amount. Felt like I couldn’t eat it all along with my porridge. Good place to go when you are in the area for a standard Hong Kong breakfast/lunch. It doesn’t seem to get overly crowded, but you do generally share tables with others here.

I’ve walked by this local congee restaurant many times on my way to the market and decided to stop in this one morning and I’m glad I did. They have a wide variety of congee, everything from the traditional to seafood heavy versions. Aside from congee, they also serve turnip cakes, steamed rice rolls, stir fried noodles and soy milk. They have combos that you can order too! The thousand year old egg and pork that I ate had an interesting twist. Instead of just using regular pork meat, the meat was more of a peppered ham. It was a nice change of pace. Also, the steamed rice roll with BBQ that I had was smooth, fresh and tasty. Lastly, this meal was very affordable. My bowl of congee was only $ 17 and the steamed rice roll was $ 14. The combos ranged from $ 23-$ 30.
