Meh… if I could describe Stack in one word it would be meh. I’m not sure if I went on a off day, but I dragged my butt out of bed early on a Saturday and made my way over for brunch. The food portions are way too small for the price. We ended up ordering two dishes each and shared a hash, but I was still starving at the end of the meal. We had to leave and get a real meal. The service the day was pretty bad and that’s a nice way of putting it. I don’t understand why it was that hard to get our drinks right.

Drinks are a little pricey. $ 90 for a cocktail but it was delicious. Service was slow as we waited almost 20 minutes for just two drinks and there were only 4 other customers sitting at the time. Came in here for the wings and they didn’t even have them on the menu anymore. Place was clean and the music was a house mix of American music. Did not get a chance to try other food items besides the hash which was potatoes and ham fried up with butter.

Okonomiyaki.(And cheese). stuffed. Pancakes. #nuffsaid I like what they did with the limited space and the kitchen/dining integration(I could smell and see the pancakes cooking). It’s the love child of an International House of Pancakes and posh soho gastropub. What a dynamite concept! The music was very chill, a mix of Frank Ocean and R&B with a dash of Coldplay. I didn’t give it a five stars because 1) it was a bit expensive for my tastes and they But hey, if you’re taking your sweet self on a date then why not treat yourself to something special? 2) they didn’t have pure Canadian maple syrup. Next time I’m bringing my own maple syrup and the plastic fantastic credit card. Wow I feel like I have just written a novel about pancakes. I will definitely use this place as inspiration for a film. Ciao!

I’m here to share with you another addition to the growing Sai Ying Pun food scene, Stack. Tucked away on the corner of Third Street, this funky joint serves American-style pancakes both day and night. Not to be confused with the typical All Day Breakfast restaurant’s like the Flying Plan, Stack serves a creative dinner menu of sweet and savory pancakes designed to be paired with cocktails. When they first opened they focused on an evening service, but they’ve recently started serving weekend brunches as well. Hubby and I hit Stack earlier this month for an impromptu Sunday brunch, and almost didn’t get a seat because we didn’t make a reservation. This tiny restaurant can accommodate 13 – 15 patrons at the bar table that wraps around the kitchen, so I would advise you to make a booking ahead of time if you plan on going. With pancakes being their speciality, I had to give the traditional Granny Pancakes a try. As you can see, the presentation of my order was stunning and mouth-watering… but, I was disappointed that I wasn’t given a «stack» of pancakes. I was sorta expecting a pile of these babies, and if they just put a bit more height on this dish, it would’ve really made my day. The lack of quantity was definitely made up for in taste. The 3 heavenly golden discs of light and fluffiness were near perfection(I prefer my pancakes to have slight crispness on the outside). The elements of ice cream, syrup and almonds elevated the simplicity of this traditional breakfast item. We also ordered a potato hash to share, but, hubby and I couldn’t agree on the goodness of this side dish. I liked how the crust was slightly burnt with the potatoes still in strands and the added Asian flare of spring onions and shreds of duck. Unfortunately, the fat from the duck made this dish slightly greasy. The sour cream helped cut through the oiliness, so I was willing to overlook this minor flaw. With an order of coffee and an orange juice, the meal set us back ~$ 440, which is quite pricey for a brunch. However, I have to admit that I was intrigued with the meal and want to go back to try some of their other brunch items such as the Redwine Grapefruit and Mr. Benedict’s Duck.

Came here in search of what I heard was amazing pancakes. They do don’t disappoint! I first tried the hash and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. Cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. I then had the honey comb pancake and I have never had something like before. Sweet, crunchy, hint of saltiness. I’ll be craving it again soon. My only reason for not have five stars is that I was told the honey comb pancake was hot and would melt the honey comb… But mine was served cold. Not like it had sat out, but like they meant it. I don’t know if this was a mistake or not but it was so tasty, I didn’t inquire. The place is quite small so I would call for reservations. Highly recommend!

This place had it all, food goes way beyond the name Stack, Fusion is a good word for a start, but the taste of every dish was unique. The soft shell crabs and the short ribs as well as Cesar wings were out standing, the healthy cocktails with Taboocha were unique and tasty! Pat, one other owners I think was speaking to everyone filling all the seats in the restaurant. She made you feel like a guest in her kitchen! Maybe a little off of the beaten path, but food makes you want to come back the next day to try more dishes and more of the ones you loved. In a city that has great places to eat, this one is special! If there is a wait, grab a house cocktail or two as it won’t be long as food comes out timely. Wish I could eat at a Stack back home! Also the Running Honey pancakes were my favorite dessert and makes me wish I could go for breakfast! 10 Stars!

Stack, named after a stack of pancakes, is a newly opened restaurant in the Sai Ying Pun area. I almost never explored this area until recently due to the fact that there’s still no MTR. I must say Stack is perhaps my favorite joint I’ve been in this neighborhood so far. There were just less than 20 seats surrounding the bar/kitchen. We arrived at 8:45pm on a weekday night and the restaurant was completely packed. We were seated after a short while as we were sipping on our cocktails. The menu had a suggested pairing system, what cocktail to pair with which dish. I must give a thumbs up to the creative directors behind the scene who named their cocktails with such interesting names. I was immediately drawn to «The Constant Black Face» which had some Chinese liquor«Ng Ka Pei» in it. My friend and I ended up exchanging our cocktails, and I was almost drunk after finishing her strong blue tequila based cocktail!(Man, they were strong!) The food was creative and tasty. We ordered the savory pancakes, Chu & Pearl as well as the side dishes Tom Yum Wings and Hash. I loved everything… just wish the wings had a stronger Tom Yum flavor and more spicy! The fattiness of the pork belly in Chu blended very well with the pancakes! Towards the end, we were tempted by the owners to try Running Honey, which was a sweet pancake with honey butter, honeycomb crunch and mascarpone. Oh dear. that was just an evil dish…(again, I’m not a dessert person and I think I’m slowly converted now!) That was the highlight of the night!!! I heard they recently starting doing brunch on weekends too. Do you serve Running Honey for brunch? Stacks is highly recommended if you wanna check out something new in SYP district! I’ll certainly be «running» over here before the MTR opens just for the Running Honey!

I had not one, not two, but THREE different friends been recommending this joint to me for awhile, and I never got a chance to go and check it out. And when the time finally came, I ate one whole pizza as dinner at Grappa’s before and grabbed a cab to here, while it just started pouring cats and dogs and frogs. Such a wrong night and the wrong place, I thought. But well boy, how wrong was I. Two of the owners were in the joint, despite it was well past dinner time. I was greeted by a shot of very traditional Chinese liquor, 五加皮酒. Most of the locals would have heard of the name but never tried, and I was one of them. I was surprised to see it here, but even more surprisingly, it did taste very good. Mind you, it was just as strong as China Baijiu, so drink responsibly. Then I was in a mood of adventuring, and tried to order some pancakes as dessert. Funny enough, the owner quite openly told me not to order some dishes, as they were redoing the menu, and some of the dishes not up to their standard would be removed. I ended up trying the honeycomb pancakes. O.M.(F.)G. If I knew you could mix honeycomb with pancakes like they did, my life would have been so different(i.e. I would have added extra 20kg on my weight). It was a very simple concept, but they had executed it perfectly. Soon after the owner(well thank you!) recommended me another cocktail with a passion fruit and vodka. It gave a very good after taste, and also made me realized how many different concepts they tried to mix together in this little joint. Look at the décor and the floor tiles, they looked exactly like what you’d expect in a Wong Kar Wai movie. Will definitely come back after they redo the menu.(Maybe not after I eat a whole pizza though.)
