Ootoya

You know the smug feeling of unexpectedly discovering a new gastro gem — this was it. HK is known for its amazing eats but I normally find Japanese restaurants here to be too overpriced for the mediocre and underwhelming quality. So I wasn’t expecting much when trying out ootoya and I ended up being really blown away.
For around $ 150HKD per person which in HK today can cost the same as a bowl of soup noodles at a ‘fancier’ location, I got to eat a five-​star quality dinner. I HIGHLY recommend their cod fish set dinner — I love cod fish but I rarely find a place that makes super soft, flakey, buttery and so well seasoned. We also ordered the meat skewers and the meat was really juicy and flavourful.
The set dinner comes with white rice, runny steamed egg (loved), picked veggies and miso soup — very filling. I also want to say how much I enjoyed the fluffy and chewy Japanese rice they served. Definitely great quality at an affordable price — I was pleasantly surprised with the bill that came and can’t say the same for a lot of restaurants in Hk.
Although the lineup looked daunting at 7pm, it was only about a 10 – 15 min wait. The seating area is also very spacious so good place to come with friends where u can have some privacy to chat without bumping elbows with neighbours.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been any reviews for this gem yet! I’m a fan!
