Some foodie friend brought me here a few times as we both adore Japanese cuisine. She has been a loyal for many years from there old location to this new one near Time Square. The server knew her well that came to recommend today’s catch and fresh arrivals from Japan. Always hit up some hot sake when you got there. The first sip burns you all the way down from throat to stomach but the rice pureness feels so natural. Start with sliced tomato in sesame sauce. They refined the traditional dish with the improved sauce ingredients. Then appetizers can go for grilled ox tongue. Slowly reach to fire wagyu beef, Tuna sashimi(on-day arrival from Osaka), Japanese turnip cake, Tuna pancake(love love love), grilled chicken liver. If you manage to finish your sake, try some plum liquor. One thing to tell whether it is authentic depends on their alcohol selection. Rumours has been around that the food quality went down. It seems the restaurant has been through some acquisition by a big F&B group. It no longer features the fresh sashimi or beef shipped from Osaka but focus on Soba noodles now. I really miss the gem here. It would be rather pleasant if the old 酒屋 style will be resumed. Some shots, some on-day arrival catch for sashimi.
