Not bad, but really not good, either. The menu sounds super fetching but the reality is these burgers just don’t do it for me. I found the meat to have an overpowering taste… it’s difficult to explain the flavor, but it tastes closer to a strong sirloin flavor as opposed to the smooth rich profile of Angus beef. Maybe it’s the grease? Because the meat was very greasy. The portion sizes are generous and you do get a good value for the money, but in the end it’s not worth it if you don’t love the burger. And I didn’t love it. You’ll also wait upwards of 15 – 20 minutes for them to prepare your burger… it’s not exactly ‘fast food’.

A huge billboard advertising shakes, and then a gruff woman saying«we don’t have shakes» as if it were obvious. Disappointing.

What I ate: Single D burger and a salted caramel shake Price I Paid: HKD108; no service charge Décor: American counter burger joint, sleek and shiny with a few rows of tables for those eating in Service: Usual takeaway fare, you order, someone calls out your number. Had to remind them that I also ordered a shake and they arrived with two shakes instead of one(!) Verdict: My colleague raved about this place and considering he likes burgers, I took on his recommendation for a lunchtime meal. When I arrived, it wasn’t extremely busy for a Central lunch time fare but the wait for the burger was around 15mins. Never mind the wait, when I dug into the first bite I found the burger to be quite cold for a burger… like the bun was toasted and left out in the open for a while. Hence my enjoyment of this burger is lukewarm… –_– The salted caramel shake was all sugar and no salted caramel depth to it. Not bad if you want to be jumping of walls for the next hour.

Time is money. At Double D’s you’ll be seriously considering that. There’s nothing fast about this burger joint, and it’s not cheap either. At its rate you can probably get 10x the burgers at a third of the time. BUT if you disregard this comparison the burgers they serve are deliciously succulent. Juicy, meaty patties, smokey sauce, all packed within a soft seasme bun — an instant classic. I think its definitely worth the time and money.

They had their soft opening event with much fanfare. They started giving out free burgers at 6:00 and by 5:30 the line was already at the end of the block. It go crazier and crazier by the minute. I loved that they had customer interaction while we waited for our treat. Employees handed out whiskey and root beer flavored popsicles by Nicepop, which will be sold here when they open. The popsicle did well with flavor, striking just the perfect balance between whiskey and root beer. There were other employees walking around to encourage people to post pictures on Instagram with their hashtag in exchange for a coupon for a free side or drink. After waiting for an hour and forty five minutes, we finally got our free burger. I probably wouldn’t wait that long again for this burger but it was definitely good. The patty had a very distinct, flavorful beef taste and I loved that the bun was crispy on the edges and soft on the inside. My only complaint is that the sauce was a little bit too salty for me. The price is also very reasonable for the Central area. It’s $ 80 for the single burger, compared to the $ 100 for a single burger at Butchers Club Burger around the corner. Although we didn’t actually get to go into the restaurant, it didn’t look like there was a lot of seating. I’m looking forward to trying their other burgers when they open.
