I’m obsessed with Indian food. Especially when it comes to delivery — the cuisine typically travels well, it packs good value for the money, and the portions are usually generous which means I can eat leftovers for lunch the next day. My friend and I were in the middle of a season 2 Game of Thrones binge(I know, I’m late to the party) and we decided some Indian food would nicely complement our drama-laden spiral. And because Chor Bazare is running a 20% off promotion on FoodPanda, I decided to give them a try over my usual choice, Haveli. Well imagine my surprise when our delivery arrived and in the bag was a flier for Haveli! Apparently, both Chor Bazare and Haveli are under the same ownership. Now I was especially excited, considering how much I adore Haveli! Unfortunately, the excitement ended with the flier. My order of chicken korma was underwhelming to say the least — the bland korma tasted more like white pasta sauce than korma. A good korma should be rich but still complex in flavor… and this one lacked spice and depth. The korma’s chicken was quite good, however. My friend’s paneer makhani was drowning in oil — and when the gravy was mixed together with the oil, it quickly separated again. I had a taste of it as I love butter chicken/butter paneer, and this rendition was really disappointing. Finally, the butter naan was severely undercooked as the texture was quite waxy and doughy. It came with none of the char and blisters that one associates with naan being cooked in a clay tandoor oven! The whole-wheat paratha also baffled us, with it’s dry texture and dull taste. Everything was certainly edible, but rather uninspired. Haveli, please share your recipes with Chor Bazare!
