Butcher & Baker

Butcher and Baker has been the talk of the town amongst my «mum friends» for months as it has a quote «great soft play area». Code in aunty language, somewhere to dump the kids whilst we have a coffee and a chat.
I headed over on a Sunday with my early morning breakfast crew. Walking in, the restaurant is beautiful. Spacious with different sections laid out surrounding a centre kitchen full of cakes, pastries and, Lo and behold, a butchers. My favourite aspect was the indoor garden feel to the restaurant. With fresh flowers and plants it’s fresh and vibrant.
These however, are the one plus sides for the place. The service is mediocre and the food is so so (I’m not even going to base my review on the food!) Although the kids do love the play area, it’s right at the back and it seems they have an aircon problem as it was rather warm even at 9am. We also had a cockroach run under our table.
Small aunty rant: they have an ice cream bar aimed at kids. Although this is a great concept, it’s kid height and unmanned. When you have a policy to let kids play at freedom, they will seek out the sweets. Luckily, our younger diners are good and always asked before trying to attack the sweets. But I heard a number of children being scolded for eating sweets. Tip to BB, don’t put the ice cream station out at 9am! It’s too tempting for most children to resist!
As a side note — my friends who live in KTown often go to BB, but only for the butcher element. The meat is fresh and the butcher in charge incredibly friendly and helpful. They won’t be dining at the restaurant again either.

The interior of this restaurant is super cute and very spacious! It has a very outdoorsy vibe and a southern comfort feel as well as menu, which are very appealing to a Texas girl like me! The menu items here are very American/​southern. My friend and I got the roast beef and the pork belly which were both pretty good!
Both dishes came with sweet potato mash and a load of gravy! The roast beef was very tender and great with the gravy and green beans. The pork belly was alright as well but since it was pan fried, the pork skin side was a little hard to chew. The pork belly came with a side of roasted carrots of assorted colors which were cooked perfectly!
The potions were a bit small compared to the real south but they are decent sized for HK! Overall a great place for those that are missing the old American Southern comfort cooking!

Had the steak and also seafood stew service is ok taste is pretty good but I feel like there were not enough seafood in the stew for the price they charge. I will come back again to try other things since it’s really close by to where I live.
