Santa Rita

I had passed this restaurant at lunch time on my first day in Lisboa, and seen it packed with Portuguese lunchers in an otherwise very touristy area. That calls for a good restaurant. Reading the reviews on Unilocal made me even more exited — this was a must visit during my Lisboa stay.
I arrived at about 20.30 on a Sunday evening, and the place was already packed. The only place they had for me (even as a single diner!) was a small table squeezed in next to the toilet. I took it. That’s how much I wanted to try this food!
I ordered the «Delicious Squid with Shrimps» — and was served a BIG plate of rice with a BIG plate of squid, shrimps and mushrooms in cream. It indeed was a very tasty dish (even if I personally would have put a bit more spices in it) and the portion was bigger than I ever could have finished by myself (and I’m a big eater!). For the couvert, main dish and one glass of wine I paid under 10 €.
But maybe even more than for the food, this is a place to go for the atmosphere. Happy people of all kinds, and the small restaurants is filled with voices and laughter.

Wonderful restaurant– grilled sardines and squid in cream sauce are to die for! Very reasonable prices!

I feel bad giving this place a bad review because the staff was really nice. The food, except for the spiritual cod was not that great. The seafood rice was bland, the fried fish was mealy. The grilled cod tasted frozen. Too bad because it’s nice otherwise.

For sheer value-​for-​money, I could go five stars. Let’s call it 4.5.
After a late afternoon visit to Castelo de São Jorge, I turned to Unilocal to help me find a reasonably-​priced restaurant in the area, serving authentic Portuguese cuisine. So glad I did, because Santa Rita is an absolute gem.
It’s tucked away on a hilly little side street. You could easily miss it as you scamper your way back down the hill to downtown Lisbon. But walk through the doors and you’ll find a bustling little hive of activity. Happy, relaxed diners, attentive waitstaff, and food, glorious food, being shuttled out of the kitchen constantly.
The staff spoke some English and I’d been dutifully memorizing some Portuguese phrases. Service went rather smoothly, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I ordered a small glass of sangria (delicious!), a plate of grilled sardines, and a small bowl of seafood rice. The server gave me that «ain’t that a lot of food, woman» look but how could I resist at roughly 5 Euro a dish?
As I planned my trip to Lisbon, one thing I fantasized about was perfectly prepared sardines. WELL I GOT THEM. These were extremely fresh, beautifully presented, with crispy and crackly skin on the outside and tender, moist, delicate flesh on the inside. The stuff of SARDINE DREAMS.
The seafood rice was tasty but not quite as good as the sardine dish. But given that it was a huge bowl and cost only about 5 or 6 Euro, I really can’t complain. It was full of seafood and a nice, comforting bowl of warm tomatoe-​y carby goodness.
I would definitely return, and I warmly recommend this spot as a nice place to relax and have dinner.
I dined solo and was seated rather quickly. I did notice that groups had to wait a bit especially as the night wore on, so if you’re able, you might want to call in advance for a reservation.

SO GREAT! Good food, good prices, great service! I loved it! Portions were good and only € 5 for many dishes! WOOHOO!

We decided to try this place during our 4-​day stop in Lisbon from Barcelona. It instantly became my favorite restaurant in all of Lisbon. I’m surprised it only has 13 reviews — but I’m sort of glad that it’s still a hidden gem :) otherwise, seats would fill up quicker than they do now. My boyfriend and I had the Seafood Rice, Tuna Steak, and Grilled Sardines. All very very good! I’m sure the rest of the menu is just as great, but you cannot miss out on the Seafood Rice. Check this place out! Your taste buds will thank you :)

I will travel to Lisbon again just to eat in this restaurant, great food and cheap. Not like those touristy bs restaurant

schnelles einfaches Essen, «fühlt sich ein wenig massenabgefertigt» (o-​Ton meiner Begleitung) die Preise locken, die Bewertungen vor der Tür auch. wer gute Preise sucht bekommt dafür eine entsprechende Qualität. aber: kein Ort zum Wohlfühlen, fühlt sich eher nach McD an.

Nos dejamos llevar por las reseñas que leí en Unilocal,que ya dejaban entrever, este gran desconocido pero espectacular restaurante, y dicho y hecho, nos acercamos en horario tempranero para cenar, ya a las 19:30 estaba hasta los topes, así que decidimos hacer tiempo en una terraza aledaña con una caña al fresco.
Volvimos y aguardamos nuestro turno, ya que había dos mesas de 40 personas cada una de ellas, y el resto estaba todo ocupado. Pacientemente tuvimos la fortuna de conseguir sitio, y entramos a cenar a las 20h. El restaurante es pequeño y abovedado, te recuerda a la entrada de un palacete que lo han reconvertido y que en verano daba un frescor de agradecer. Lo tienen todo muy bien organizado, empezando por el gerente que fue él mismo quien nos atendió de la mejor de las maneras.
Para despedirnos de Lisboa, debíamos hacerlo con un plato que cocinan de 300 maneras diferentes y esto es, el bacalhau, lo pedimos espiritual, que es como una masa mezclada con patata y zanahoria realmente exquisita, lulas al piripiri con arroz (por 5,95 €) y un filete de atún con sus verduritas, acompañada de dos dobles de Sagres (a 1,20 € cada una, bien tiradas y fresquitas). Absolutamente todos los platos nos encantaron, pero quizás destacaron por su elaboración el bacalhau y las lulas (calamares) que estaban realmente sabrosos, y que rebañamos hasta que no quedó nada en el plato.
El gerente del restaurante, cuando fuimos a pagar nos dio una tarjeta suya por sí volvíamos otra vez y fue muy atento, ya que se le veía interesado en saber si habíamos disfrutado de cada plato pedido. Y si ya estábamos maravillados con tal servicio y calidad de las materias primas trabajadas, cuando nos trajo la cuenta caímos rendidamente enamorados a sus pies. La cuenta con los 3 platos, y las 2 dobles de cerveza salió a 20,60 €, creo que no tengo nada más que añadir para decir que es el restaurante que más nos cautivó y que volveremos a ir en cuanto tengamos oportunidad.

C’est plutôt un 3 et demi car vu le quartier très touristique pas loin du château difficile de trouver un si bon rapport qualité prix.
On a pris un loup grillé à moins de 7 €, le seul reproche pour ma part concerne la garniture trop simple et pas assez gourmande, des pommes de terres à la vapeur, des brocolis et une carottes assez fades dans l’ensemble c’est dommage car j’ai eu l’impression de manger un plat de régime! un comble en vacances mdr!
Le poisson avait plus de goût et était très bien grillé, la prochaine fois je prendrais un plat plus gourmand pour peut être réviser ma note.
Les desserts sont très abordables à 1,20 €.
La salle fait penser à une ancienne église, par contre c’est très bruyant car il y a beaucoup de monde, pas de touriste pour une fois que des portugais autour de nous.

Sehr günstig, Essen schmeckt auch. Ist aber sehr wuselig, hat fast Kantinencharakter, obwohl die Lage toll ist. Wer günstig speisen will, ist hier gut dabei — wer etwas zum einkehren und entspannen sucht geht lieber weiter!

My friend and I made this our last stop before leaving Lisboa, in hopes of getting some amazing seafood for a decent price. We were not disappointed – we arrived early (before the locals filled the place) and saw the fresh seafood being brought in. I don’t know how they are able to offer such huge portions of great (fresh!) food for such low prices! My friend got the seafood rice, which was amazing. Try this place!

Einfache aber sehr gute Fisch und Fleischgerichte zu sehr guten Preisen! Haben zu zweit inkl Getränken, Brot und Kaffee nur 22 € bezahlt. Die halben Portionen sind schon recht groß!

Nobody wants to cook and one flatmate who’s going back home. That calls for a dinner elsewhere! As we’re al students we need to look out for the budget too so Santa Rita it was.
First of: if you’re looking for something cheap this is the place to go! We paid 13 euro/​person and some had starters others had dessert. Couple of bottles of wine. You get the picture: super cheap.
Now the food. It was certainly not bad but I didn’t really liked it. My dish was full of coriander and when used subtle it’s nice but too much is just too much …
Service was nice and fast. Good place to come with a big group but don’t expect too much the price is good though!

Die Speisekarte ist typisch portugiesisch, sodass wir eigentlich nichts verstanden haben. Die freundlichen Bedienungen gaben alles und versuchten uns mit Händen und Füßen zu erklären, was was ist. Für Vegetarier ist es übrigens schwierig was zu finden, aber man kann alle Gerichte auch ohne Fleisch & Fisch bestellen: D
Preislich ist der Laden echt unschlagbar. Es ist eben kein Touristenladen, sondern ein authentisches Lokal! — Laßt euch drauf ein & stattet Santa Rita einen Besuch ab!

Super cheap prices, and food was really good, specially fish dishes. I would recommend everyone to come to this place, before or after visiting Sao Jorge castle :). Plus, service was very nice with us and the restaurant is in a sort of big-​white-​space room that is quite relaxing. Totally worth it!

I went to this place with a few friends and we were shocked by how cheap and at the same time excellent the food was. The seafood rice was well prepared, the Sangria light and flavoured and the Octopus delicious. I cannot recommend this place more. The place is really close to some great viewpoints and the staff are absolutely great. 5 stars.

A Dona Conceição comanda a cozinha, o Sr. Clemente está na sala (e no nosso facebook se o adicionarmos como amigo) com uma equipa super atenta e habituadíssima a jantares de grupo. O ambiente é super simpático e a relação qualidade/​preço é a melhor possível. Com entradas, três pratos e bebida à descrição, esta é uma das minhas opções preferidas para jantares de grupo — convém é reservar, claro.

Aqui se come o melhor arroz de polvo da cidade e digo-​o com toda a certeza. Nunca provei igual.
Esta casa é um daqueles sítios que, não fosse pelo tamanho, passaria despercebido facilmente. Numa rua sem muito tráfego, mesmo junto ao largo do caldas, eis que um grande salão se abre de portas para servir boa comida, em muito boa dose e a muito bom preço.
É um sítio ideal para grandes grupos devido ao espaço mas também devido a comida. Há pratos para agradar a gregos e a troianos.
O serviço por vezes tende a ser caótico, quando a casa está cheia é complicado conseguir a atenção de quem serve e, se estivermos «mais sensíveis» a coisa pode correr menos bem mas, assim que vem a comida a mesa, é para esquecer tudo o resto e apreciar.

Fizemos aqui um dos maiores jantares de grupo em que já participei e correu tudo super bem! Éramos cerca de 80, o que quer dizer que ocupámos praticamente o restaurante.
Nota-​se que estão bastante habituados a jantares de grupo pois estava tudo muito bem organizado. ajudei na recolha do dinheiro que foi feito à entrada e como é óbvio atrasei-​me para os primeiros dos quatro pratos servidos naquele banquete mas os senhores que lá trabalhavam estavam bastante atentos e mal me sentei foram-​me colocados à frente os dois pratos que já tinham passado! Gostei bastante da atenção!
Um serviço que apesar de ser de grupo e não se estar à espera de grande qualidade acabou por surpreender e que está bastante bem no que respeita à relação qualidade preço.
