This place is a classic example of a village community hall, or, as the Dutch call it, a ‘dorpshuis’. They’ve got a bar with a small stage for performances, some event spaces, and a large gymnasium as a bonus.(Presumably rented out to local schools?) We went to De Schalm to get tickets to see David Olney and Sergio Webb, two world class artists who somehow visit the little village of Westwoud every other year or so. De Schalm probably doesn’t often get such amazing artists, but when they do, it’s the perfect venue. I sat in some of the comfy theater style seats on the side of the theater, right by the stage. Because this place holds no more than 100 people(and there were probably closer to 50 here), you’re guaranteed a great seat and view. Plus David and Sergio hung out in the bar before and after the performance, so we had a chance to chat with David and meet Sergio for the first time. You can book tickets on the website for De Schalm, which requires you to transfer the money straight from your bank account. I had to get in touch with them for the new EU-compliant BIC code, but other than that, I found the process very easy. A+
