I’m sorry but I have to lower the rating here. Because La Place, in the middle of Venlo’s pedestrian area in downtown looks very chic, very colourful and sparkling; it seems to propose good breakfast or lunch-offers, but actually the prices vary between slightly expensive and expensive. The Service is very polite, very obliging and keenly tries to satisfy every customer’s request, but the best service doesn’t iron out the horrible and boring kitchen. I had the Dutch Classic Erwtensoep, a(so called) Focaccia with a cream salad of chicken, herbs and celery, and a small tartlet with nuts and apple slices, escorted by Coffee with cream. The Focaccia Wannabe was too fat and a bit greasy at it’s outside, and ironically Texas-Desert-dry from the Inside. The Salad was okay, the celery spent it’s spicy taste to the cream, have eaten worse ones. The tartlet was, again, dry as hell. But the QUEEN, the Empress of Impertinence was the pea soup. I was looking forward to a Dutch Classic, but even the can-version by unox is BYFAR tastier than this water-based impossibility. The Taste was, after all, not existing and, nevertheless the soup looked great and fresh, I had the feeling of thicker water while eating. Awful! The carrot cubes weren’t crispy or firm to the bite, they were just raw and hard, thrown into the soup minutes before I ordered and not cooked. Sorry, dear La Place-Team: A fancy Interior, Hipster-like letters on the Walls and friendly Waiters aren’t enough, you are too expensive for a boring, passionless neutral tasting kitchen(and PLEASE start cleaning up the tables after EVERY guest, my table wasn’t truly clean.) You are ympathetic people, but this effort to run a Restaurant is careless and insufficient. Upgrade your cooks, then you might demand such high prices
