Best value-for-money snack on Amsterdam’s high streets. Fresh potatoes, crispy, interesting range of sauces. Best of all is the size– even the small is fine for two people! :D If you’ve been to Belgium and had their frites you might be disappointed, but otherwise these are fine. Worst point was that they and the sauce we had were both oversalted, but if you opt for a sweeter sauce you might be fine!

Great tasting fries! There never is any room to sit down and eat in peace so that sucks.

I have only been here once, so I can only judge based on that one time, and that experience was just okay. The chips were thick like I like them, but were not crisp at all, kind of soggy like you would expect british chips after they are wrapped in paper and steam themselves. I shared a normal size with a friend and it was a lot. We originally were going to order a large and the shop keeper let us know that the large is a kilo of fries! That’s insane, so we changed the order to the normal. If I was on my own I would probably get the small.

Wonderful fries! You can taste the fresh potatoes! Even a small portion is enough to share with a friend. Delicious!

Recently, I was in the mood for some emotional eating and what better way to do so than with thick golden fries. While I was waiting for my order, I got a glimps into customer demographic and ‘ve come to the conclusion a large proportion are foodie tourists/expats guided by the lonely planet what to eat list when in Utrecht. So was this couple ordering after me. They weren’t sure what condiment to go for, treating it like it was a life decision. First ordering the safe but boring ketchup but changed their minds to friet sauce, afraid to miss out on the whole Flemish fries eating experience. After some more discussion and careful consideration the verdict was finally out: they were going for ½ mayonaise and ½ friet sauce. I, on the other hand, prefer the Flemish mayo and don’t go anywhere near the Dutch mayo(way too sweet). Portions are obese supersize here by the way. As for the emotional eating, I went for the smallest kiddy size portion and my emotions were satisfied after finishing about ½ portion… This brings me to the other loyal custumers, the heavy build construction worker type Dutch guys who don’t have to think 1 sec about how they want their golden dinner and without a doubt go for their daily size large fries with 80% fat mayo(patatje MET) and while they’re waiting for their order why not go for a fricandel… or 2 from the automatic…

I’m usually not a fan of Flemish chips, I prefer the really skinny ones like at MacD unless I make them myself, then it’s thick cut chips for sure! However, I am a huge fan of Manneken Pis chips, especially when I order half way through the current batch of chips; the perfect combination of having cooled down just enough and not having too much salt on the chips. Love! What I also love is the fact that you can order your sauces on the side in a small tub so the chips don’t get soggy and you can order multiple sauces without having them all mixed up so you can really taste the sauces. And of course the spices to shake over your chips, Cajun is my favourite! Usually my boyfriend eats them with«fritessaus» but I hate the stuff, it’s a low fat(and because of the way they substitute the oil chemical and unhealthy) version of mayonnaise and he knows I hate it, so last time we ordered the Flemish mayonnaise with it and I loved it. Don’t think I’ll order regular mayonnaise any time soon, Flemish all the way now! edit: not Flemish mayonnaise, but Zaanse, ask voor Zaanse mayonnaise! Added bonus, an old friend of my boyfriend started working there now, so last time it was on the house. Yay!

Nothing better than a bag of warm fresh fries on a cold day! Yum-ee! Born and raised in Utrecht, Manneken Pis has been worth making my trip downtown for. Now that I live in the States and I only get to visit the Netherlands once a year, I make the effort to spend one afternoon in Downtown Utrecht(Mannenken Pis has multiple locations, including a couple in Amsterdam, but the one in Utrecht is nostalgic for me) to eat a bag of fries with Mayo, the Flemish mayo that is! Oh, I can’t wait to fly back to the Netherlands again, just thinking about it!

OHMAN! Nothing like a good bag of chips on a cold day! This stand has repeatedly won the«number 1 chippie of the Netherlands» award and not without reason. You’ll die, in glorious dollops of mayo, you will die of bliss.(Also, order it with proper mayo will ya?) That’s how they’re supposed to be had, none of that pussy-footing ketchupping about, please. Believe me, once you’ve tried it, you will never want your chips any other way. Melt, I think I may have asked the chippeteer behind the counter if she’d marry me at one point. Being Dutch, and therefore stoic, she just said: «Sure! I get off at 5!» Ah, Dutchies. Dutchies and chips. Nom.
