A palace of open planning and no expense spared on the décor… however we had a table of 6 and 4 dishes returned to the kitchen …3 canneloni and 1 overcooked steak… mistakes happen but when one is out together this really lets the place down big-time. Apologies followed by new plates of food that is the steak… the canneloni was put back in the oven and the waitress asked who had left which indentation where to figure out who’s plate was whose… Basic service would be to issue new dishes… the food was brasserie standard fare nothing majorly special and the prices a bit high for the food itself. Some room for improvement here as style over substance in this case was out if balance. We had fun though as friends do, but we would go out of our way not to return, albeit that it stands our for the standard pizza and meat places of this small village so I do get it why it is still open…

I was in Uithoorn for work, and as a vegetarian never really know what to expect in small towns I visit for the first time. We went to Sjiek for a drink after the meeting, and I checked out their menu to see if I should come back afterwards for dinner. They had a few vegetarian options on the menu that really appealed to me, a lot more than the hotel I was staying at, so I came back. First — the view: you’re 50m from the Amstel, and the terrasse of the Sijek is really nice. Really worth coming for a drink, the sun setting on this side. Inside, the place is really nice and cosy, and probably has been refurbished quite recently. It felt like an American café/restaurant for some reason, in a positive way :) Service was good. I’m amazed at the level of English of the Dutch really! The drinks and food came in quite quickly, and the waiters were nice. Finally, the food! I decided to try the vegeratian chili(look at the pic and you’ll see why it caught my eye!), and was sooo happy that I did: it was simply delicious, with tortillas, guacamole, and sour cream. I don’t remember how much I paid but it was really reasonnable. I highly recommend this place if you’re in Uithoorn and don’t know where to go!

I think Uithoorn has some of the better food that I’ve had in the Netherlands. It’s surprising since it’s such a small place, and this place is no exception. First we had some drinks outside which had a nice view of the Amstel river. It is literally right across the street. When walking into the place we were all quite surprised to see how big this place is. Wow. the is a huge back section with really high ceilings. pretty nice. As for the food. I had a bread plate to start with that was okay, nothing too special. For dinner a had the kip sate which was actually decently spicy. The plate had a slice of watermelon, some bread, and a few other small things. I thought the fries that we got were also really good. The mayo was a bit vinegary which I thought was great although the people at my table did not agree. The prices are also very resonable.
