Very neutral tastes. Very expensive; 20 euro for a dish on average. We had no. 85, pork strip, and No. 94, Sichuan eggplant dish. Disappointed big time. When I pay 20 euro per a single dish, i expect to receive the same value of taste/service. All I can say is you can have better taste food in other Chinese restaurant at half price. Interior was Good.

To be honest, I’m not sure how authentic this location is especially when I saw they used canned cherry/peach/grape for their sweet and sour dish. Nevertheless, their dishes are really tasty, bold and full of flavor(exactly how Szechwan food should be). I never knew Sansan existed until a friend of mine decided to celebrate her birthday at her favorite Chinese restaurant in Rotterdam. We didn’t order the dishes ourselves, but the whole entire restaurant has been booked and the dishes have been planned out by our host. We were so full by the end of the evening. I could barely walk. Lol I could barely remember what we had since there were about 10 courses of dishes. But I can point out the highlight of the evening and I’ve posted a pic in the gallery. It was their crispy Crab and lobster dish. It was definitely a foodgasm. Thinking about it makes me drool. The service was good and overall the dishes were delicious. I would definitely go back to check out the rest of their menu.

Location: Downtown Rotterdam. Nice views over a canal. Atmosphere: Not the typical sketchy Chinese restaurant but there are always lots of Chinese locals.(Good sign ;)) Service: Good. Average English. Value for money: A bit pricey for what I am used to pay for Chinese food. 14 € for fried noodles. Quality: Feels just like the traditional Chinese food that my grandma would cook so thats good. Ordered something typical off the menu and they got it right. Ideal for: Friends/family. Not so romantic for a first date I would say. I’d only go here for the food not for the atmosphere

Pros: authentic Chinese done right, attentive staff Cons: a little off the beaten path I went here with a British colleague whose father is a retired Bengali restauranteur. I trust his guidance and this was the first time here for both of us. We had the dim sum to start the meal and the portions were just right and prepared to perfection. We then ordered the spicy chicken and duck. The waitress checked with my colleague several times before she allowed him to order the three chili pepper chicken dish. When it came, I understand why. It was intense, but rewarding. It was outstanding, along with the duck. You will see many Chinese dining along side you and there’s a reason. They know where to find the good stuff. This is definitely on the list for my next trip to Rotterdam.

Really good Sichuan food with a lot of different dishes and not the same stuff gou get at any Chinese restaurant. Some dishes can be quite spicy but very tasty overall. And it must be good because my Chinese friends also really like this place.

After having lived, worked and eaten in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, for three years, this restaurant is a blessing for me. It’s not 100% the same and some dishes could be spicier(hotter/numbing), but it sure does hit the mark. I almost felt back in Chengdu again and I had a chance to practice some of the Chinese words and phrases I still knew from a few years back. After having asked for dandanmian, a typical Chinese noodle dish which wasn’t on the menu, we were served four portions without hesitation. Too bad they no longer had the froglegs on the menu, they are really good when served in a typical spicy Sichuan broth. Next time I will ask if they can use a bit more of the Sichuan peppercorn. They are not as hot as the really spicy red peppers, but actually give a numbing sensation to your lips and tongue. I kind of missed that this time, hence the four stars instead of five. This place is a recommendation indeed if you love(or want to try) spicy and authentic Sichuan food!
