The only place in Holland where I had a scone that came close to my moms recipe… and that says it all. Add great service, cool serving solutions and the high tea of the century(still to try but my the promise is great) …this place is a charmer, bring your mom or your girlfriends and enjoy the chat the tea the buzz and the goodies… oh goody can I go again tomorrow?

Some places serve mediocre dishes, not bad, good but mediocre. Those places need to have excellent service to attract clients. Then, there are few places that serve excellent and near-perfect edible arts. These places don’t need anything else but their products to attract foodies. Loft Der Zoetheid definitely falls into this category. I personally haven’t been treated poorly like a few reviewers pointed out. In fact, I’ve always experienced excellent services here. The owner even gave us complimentary raspberry/strawberry prosecco the last 2 times dined there. Regardless, the reason I gave this place a perfect score is because they do have great dishes. AND they have the best high-tea out of all the places I’ve visited around the globe. And… I do travel. This is a must-visit and must-reserved place for high tea if you’ve never been here and if you love high-teas. Everything is homemade and delicious. However, if customer service is what you’re looking for, Loft der Zoetheid may not be the right fit for you. P. S. I have rated some places low based on poor customer service but their dishes weren’t good enough to make up for their poor service. :-)

THEOWNERISINSUFFERABLE I went in with a friend and due to my allergies I immediately went to the counter where the cakes were to inquire if I could possibly eat there. I’m allergic to nuts and soy. The waitress at the counter was very friendly and asked an older woman wearing a hairnet for advice(the owner.) This woman was visibly in a hurry and bit distant, pointing out which ones I could eat. I expressed my gratitude and went to go sit down and order. Once having ordered the cake and a coffee, I realised that I had forgotten to ask if it had been baked using margarine or butter. Margarine is pure soy, in my past experience a lot of people don’t know this or don’t think of this so it helps to ask. I walked over to the coffee making area where my waitress was standing and asked her politely, she responded«yes, I think it’s with butter» I was about to thank her and go back to my seat when the owner(visibly irritated) appeared, the waitress asked her again just to make sure I’m guessing– who confirmed that it was indeed butter. The owner proceeded to verbally attack me, shouting«If you don’t trust then don’t eat» I was shocked by her aggression and tried to explain that I was simply asking a question and she said«you already asked 4 colleagues, if you don’t trust then don’t eat!!» She wouldn’t let me speak, cutting me off every time I tried to talk to her, repeatedly shouting«if you don’t trust don’t eat!!» then I finally managed to say«I think you are very rude» to which she threw her hands up in a «I don’t care» motion and walked away. I was very shaken by this experience, on the verge of tears. I work in customer service and NEVER in my life have I seen anyone treat a customer like this, not to mention have I myself been treated like this. I could’t understand why she was so aggressive to me. This was the 2nd question to the 2nd person I had politly asked(not the 4th) like she had thought… even if it was the 4th, is that any reason to treat a customer like this? Absolutely awful. Since she is the owner, I struggle with the fact that I will not get any type of closure in the form of an apology for this abuse. I need to just accept that some people are simply insufferable.

I had a delicious meal at Lof der Zoetheid. I was so impressed with the quality of the food. This restaurant defies stereotypes about the uninspired Dutch cuisine. However I must give this restaurant two stars because I have never been treated so horribly by a person in the customer service industry in my life! After paying for the meal, I asked a woman behind the counter if I could purchase one of the candies to take away. I asked and she told me that they were all out, when sheets of candy sat on the table beside her in plain sight. I thought she misunderstood me, so I repeated myself and pointed at the candies. She became more irritated, yelling at me that they were all out. I was obviously confused and finally told me they weren’t for sale. She acted as if my request was ridiculous before just leaving me standing at the counter. I was so taken aback by this that I left feeling awful. I’ve never done this in my life, but I was so upset that I went back in and told her I thought her actions were out of line. She made excuses, saying that she didn’t have eyes in the back of her head, hence she couldn’t see the candy I was referring to. Well this just doesn’t make sense. The worst part was that all the other waitresses were pleasant and attentive. I just spent money in your café, be a little nicer and simply say ‘They aren’t for sale’. Sheesh. Go there and eat tasty food. Just avoid the lady behind the counter.
