Supposedly one of the top bars in Europe. Personally, it’s way overcrowded for my taste. On a partying night (Thursday-​Sunday, pretty much) this place is so packed, you can’t move through the crowd from the door to the bar to even get your drink. I have only been here twice, and not again.

The Witte Aap (the white monkey) is a well known bar in Rotterdam and it’s famous street the Witte the With Street. It’s always crowded in here, especially in the weekend. Or during the World /​Euro Cup. It’s a fun bar to hang out with your friends. It’s always very crowded, but a lot of fun and people are cheery and nice. Drinks are affordable and the bartenders hip and nice. The music is good but not fantastic. It’s more atmospheric than dance music. In the olden days you would have been squashed against the wall, it was so crowded and small there. Café Witte Aap is a bit bigger now and you have a bit more breathing space, but it’s still very crowded and comfy. You have to worm your way out to get outside to smoke or catch some air. Trust me, sometimes you need it. It’s too cosy in there sometimes. The Witte Aap has a hotel now, called The Gorilla. So if you’re completely smashed and don’t know what your name is anymore, you can always crash next door.
