While visiting Nijmegen, a friend recommended that we visit De Firma. When we stopped by for dinner, the restaurant had only been open for a few months and it was packed with a young hip crowd. While the food was certainly not bad, the quality of the tapas-style eats did not justify the price, hype or wait for them to be served. De Firma’s idea is to serve modern takes on Dutch food in small plate settings meant to be shared. While some of the idea, like the herring pizza, interesting, nothing was particularly memorable and everything was over-salted. Annoyingly, only a few small plates were brought out at a time with waits of about thirty minutes between courses. This left us particularly hungry and wondering when we would get more food. Hopefully both the quality of the food and the promptness of the service will improve as the restaurant is open a bit longer.
