Café In de Blaauwe Hand

A really nice pub! Great hot chocolate and the beer in a stone jug liked it! I will be planning to come back!

de Blauwe Hand has a special place in my heart and is my go-​to place for pretty much anything bar-​related in Nijmegen.
Agree with the other reviewers that it’s a tight fit, however people are generally accommodating and nice here. It’s just got that good feel.
Watch out for the buffalo grass vodka. They have a SOLID often-​changing draft beer selection and they are the only place you can get de hemel «rooie tip top» which is a can’t miss. Food is lekker also.

Love to go here on a Friday evening or Saterday afternoon to hang out with friends and enjoy the huge amount of great beers on tap. Service is very friendly and food is limited, but nice.

A Nijmegen classic for literally centuries and centuries now! The wee bar is perfect for a group of no more than 4, and even that can be a challenge. Food is available & a few notches above standard pub fare, but the kitchen closes early, usually at 8. Very lovely selection of bottled beers and relatively locally made liquors, but be sure to ask what’s on draft, as there will surely be at least one that you have never seen before but should try.

A homey little tavern with a spread of excellent genevers and tasty tapas. Go in the winter for extra gezellig. The location is historic and painfully precious. Love.

Mein absolutes Lieblingscafe in Nijmegen, es ist total gemütlich. Hier sind wir während des Studiums sehr gerne hingegangen, wenn es gerade mal nicht so gut lief oder das Wetter total schlecht war und haben uns mit einer heißen Schokolade aufheitern lassen. Da das Café so klein und gemütlich ist, muss man allerdings auch Glück haben um einen Platz zu bekommen Aber dann kann man sich ganz auf das Ritual einlassen: Schokostücke in die heiße, aufgeschäumte Milch einrühren, bis sie sich auflösen, Likör hinzugeben, Sahnehäubchen draufgeben und genießen. Danach fühlt man sich garantiert besser. Im Sommer kann man aber auch vor der blauwen hand sitzen und ein Bier genießen und das alles zu moderaten Preisen, unbedingt zu empfehlen!

The oldest pub in Nijmegen has been going strong since 1542, and what it lacks in size it makes up for in ambiance. It’s a friendly place with excellent knowledgeable staff, where you meet all sorts. It’s a good place to take the family (coffee and chocolate drinks are superb), a favourite student haunt (good prices, late opening), and it’s fantastic for a connoisseur as well — the changing variety of French, Belgian, Dutch and Nijmeegs beers on offers is astounding, though as the pub and cellar are small not everything will be on tap. Ask the waiter for tips before leaving your own. Along with Café Jos in the East district of Nijmegen and De Vlaamse Reus in nearby Wageningen, this wee haunt ranks among the very best in The Netherlands.

Hier gibt es definitiv die beste heisse chocolade melk von ganz Nijmegen! ;-) Serviert wird heisse, aufgeschaeumte Milch Schoko-​Bons, die man selber einruehrt. Dazu gibts natuerlich das obligatorische Kekschen und Sahne extra. Und zur ersten chocolademelk auch noch ein lekker coffie-​likoertje auf Kosten des Hauses.
Und das zusammen mit absolut netten Bedienungen, einem immer gemixten (auch altermaessig) und auch immer wieder internationalen Publikum, einer Riesen-​Auswahl an Bieren aus der ganzen Welt mit Top-​Beratung durch de Barkeeper (man kann ggf. auch erst mal probieren!) und leckeren kleinen Snacks… Einfach nett!
Und ich habe die tolle Atmosphaere noch ganz uebergangen. Das ist die aelteste Kneipe der Stadt und viel ist auch noch erhalten geblieben. Hier trifft sich ganz Nijmegen und eben auch internationales Publikum jeden Alters dazwischen.
