I walked in and instantly felt welcome, they took my coat and showed me to my chair. I felt like a king. The benches were covered with the softest pillows imaginable. All the decorations fit perfectly together. For a starter I took the onion baji, it arrived soon and looked good. When I bit into the baji it was heavenly; crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. It tasted amazing. Next I had spinach and potatoes with rice. Everything tasted great and just melted in my mouth.
I would highly recommend this place.

Had dinner in Surya last night, after several unsuccesfull attemps to make a reservation. The restaurant is very popular and seems to be filled allmost every evening.
I found that Surya has all that i would like to find in a restaurant, great food, service & ambiance.

This was the first place my wife and I went after moving to Hilversum from the US back in 2013. It’s so good we’ve been back several times since!
The food is probably the most authentic Indian food I’ve had in the Netherlands so far. It’s rich, flavorful and (when appropriate) VERY spicy. The portions are reasonable, but you may need to bring a bit home with you (which isn’t really a bad thing). The variety on the menu is great and everything I’ve tried has been excellent.
The restaurant itself is very tiny, but beautifully decorated and comfortable. It’s probably the most cozy restaurant I’ve ever been in. Unless you’re going on a random Tuesday night, I suggest calling ahead for a reservation.

i’ve been here twice (hilversum location) and everytime i go home with a very happy belly. i always get the same thing though. the korma. the last time i got the shrimp korma and i was very pleased with the BIG shrimps! next time i really should try one of the grilled meat dishes. i see them coming out of the kitchen sizzling and smelling incredible.
i’m not a good adviser on saying how authentic it is, but it’s great. the only thing negative i would say are the salads that come with each dish. it’s just a bowl of lettuce & other unmemorable veggies with no dressing. at least i didn’t taste any?
