Musis is the main concert hall of Arnhem, home of het Gelders Orkest(known as the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra in English). Known formerly as ‘Musis Sacrum’, Latin for ‘Dedicated to the Muses’, it was originally built in 1847 and was expanded in 1888 – 90. The main orchestra hall is built on the model of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, complete with the names of famous composers along the balcony. The Gelders Orkest plays here almost every week but there’s also many other concerts and events happening so make sure to check the schedule. The Musis is currently undergoing renovation, and a whole recital hall and foyer are currently being built on the park side of the building, this is expected to be finished in 2017. The building also houses the Mahler café, a bistro-café where you can grab lunch, coffee, or a pre-concert meal.
