Wow super chill place with floor cushions and sheep skin chairs and a huge record collection. Got the best espresso of my life and was given a choice between Ethiopian and Brazil beans! Also got an apple tart that was fantastic. Great service and great coffee.

When people talk about Amsterdam and coffee in the same sentence it has historically been more the coffee shops where there is more smoking than coffee drinking go on. The specialty coffee scene in Amsterdam is however really taking off and in the past couple of years a variety of new places have popped up. One of my recent discoveries is White Label Coffee in the western part of Amsterdam. I first encountered their coffee at Kokko in Helsinki and then decided to make sure to have time to visit there place in Amsterdam. They have a rather spacious café where they roast coffee, sell beans and some equipment as well as of course serve the coffee. They have a wide range of coffee for sale and upon my visit they had an impressive seven different coffees available to order as hand-brewed filters. The guys working here really know how to make their coffee, very nicely prepared. The roasting is also very good and I was impressed by filter as well as cold brew. For me they are among the top coffee places in town and for me they are currently only beaten by Scandinavian Embassy but I do believe the fact that these guys roast their own coffee is something that may in the long run make them number one. There is some simple café food on offer and nice apple pie and other pastries but I would still not say that it is the place to come for a full meal. What they have is however nice and decently priced. I like the atmosphere of the place and the people working there are very friendly so it is a nice place to hang at. It is fairly spacious and has free wifi so it is also possible to hang around for a longer period of time.

The space is awesome. Really. Great place to sit for a cup of coffe and work on you laptop or just read. The coffee here is really really good. I also tried the banana bread which I didn’t really like. So why only three stars? I bought some coffee for home here. First time I bought it I loved it. When I went back to get some more they didn’t have anymore of the same kind, which is fine cause they work seasonally. But ever since I tried at least 3 – 4 different kind of beans, non of them was good. Great place to have coffee in. Love it. Not gonna buy anymore beans there though…

The closest coffee place to my house and surely one of the nicest ones! Really wonderful cappuccino, delicious(and big!) slice of banana bread and cool atmosphere whether you need to work, meet up with a friend or just enjoy your coffee.)

Met a friend here as it’s halfway between our two places and was pleasantly surprised. They do a great coffee and the vibe is perfect for a little chill-axing and people watching. If your poison is tea instead of coffee, your second infusion costs less than your first. I’ll be back.

Gorgeous and delightful little café which I had heard rumours about– so I went out of my way to stop in one Sunday afternoon. Much to my delight, SBTRK were playing in the background whilst I waited for my take-away cappuccino. *cue hipsters dancing, without a care in the world here*. Given how fussy I am about my coffee, I didn’t think it was a terrible coffee, not at all. It was just a touch more bitter than I like. But service was top notch! Everything was set up just so– it’s a little hipsters paradise! Next time though, I might have to have coffee in-house and see if it’s any better. Until then, I’ll keep on keeping on… with my search for the perfect cup of coffee!

Great coffee shop and they do a good flat white. Flat whites served in a tulip cup(5oz is my guess) which is what i do at home. They have a spirit 3grp + dual mazzer kony setup.

The best coffee I tasted in Amsterdam so far. There’s a guy just preparing the beans all the time(you can smell it actually), that you will enjoy there or buy to prepare at home. Very nice place, the design is very original. The waiter was friendly.

Joining the chorus of praise for this place. I think the thing I love most about it(other than the fact that I live next door) is that the coffee here tastes completely unique to anything else I’ve tried in Amsterdam(and I’ve been to a lot of nice roaster//café type places here). They truly have their own style, which is also reflected in the vibe of the place, and the fascinating cast of characters that frequents it. A lovely find in Amsterdam West!

How do you creatively use a high ceiling in a café? You build a podium with several levels and place the counter on the summit. A very cool room concept realized in the White Label Coffee. You climb up, across the stone blocks that connect the levels, past the community table and low seats on the left. When you stand in front of the counter the view reveals the levels going down behind it. Ideal for people who want to hide from pedestrian’s looks. I prefered to enjoy the aromatic White Label coffee on a front seat where you can have a look at the shelf displaying the buyable coffee products. And I was lucky to get a piece of the fantastic appeltaart. The owners are beaming with delight, you can see how happy and rightly proud they are of their great new hot spot. It’s certainly brave to open a coffee roasters place in De Baarsjes and not a hip neighbourhood like De Pijp. But White Label it’s definitely worth the journey. Let’s hope that they become trend setters and many nice places may follow.
